Murwillumbah Historical Society Our History:
A public meeting was called by Councillor C. H. More than 50 people attended the meeting, at which Mr R. C. Whittle was elected President and Dr J. K.

Formed 16 March 1959, the Society's aim is to research and publicise the rich and unique history of the town of Murwillumbah and its surrounds in the pictureaque Tweed River Valley of far northern NSW. Lundberg, president of the Tweed Shire Council, at the request of the Murwillumbah Rotary Club, on March 16th, 1959. This meeting saw the birth of Tweed River Historical Society, which is now known as the Murwillumbah Historical Society. Marks was elected Vice President.

In 1920 at least twelve Tweed towns accepted the Commonwealth government's offer of a war trophy - a weapon captured by the AIF during World War I. The Tweed Valley received an artillery piece (pictured), a trench mortar and a number of machine guns. Do you have any photos of these artefacts?
