Fundraiser for the Uki Refugee Project on 8th May.

The Lost Minstrels - presenting music through the ages. Music from castles, courts, dances and songs.

Unearthing and reviving ancient melodic gems from as far back as the 1200s. From the regal to the rustic and aristocratic, Celtic to Flamenco, music that transports and transforms the listener through time, tone, tempo and space.

First of the workshops start tomorrow, Thursday 23rd, don’t forget to RSVP. First up Mullumbimby.

From House You:

Northern Rivers is one of the most disaster vulnerable regions in the country. It's also the most unaffordable with the largest cohort of rough sleepers in the state. Those two things are connected. They mean renters and the unhoused are the most exposed when disasters strike, and the least prepared.

This week, Join 1 of 3 workshops: Preparedness for You

Free. Catered. 3 hours of practical skills, rights, and community: made for your actual situation.

RSVP is essential to reserve your spot and for catering purposes.

Mullumbimby, Lismore & Tweed Heads.

Last year, our team had the opportunity to take part in Gender and Disaster training, and it left a deep impression on us.

It reinforced and deepened our understanding of how disasters don’t affect everyone equally. Gender, roles, expectations, and lived experience all shape how people prepare for, experience, and recover from crises. These differences can increase vulnerability for some, but they can also reveal strengths, leadership, and opportunities for more inclusive and effective community responses.

The training was thoughtful, practical, and grounded in real-world experience. It gave us language, insight, and tools that have already influenced how we think about disaster preparedness and resilience in our own work.

Because of this, we’re really pleased to be bringing Gender and Disaster back to the Northern Rivers, with two free training opportunities for people working, volunteering, or supporting communities in disaster contexts:
📍 Lismore — 28 April: https://shorturl.at/FJFBt
📍 Mullumbimby — 28 May: https://shorturl.at/gn4D3

Plan C will be attending alongside others from across the region, and we’d love to see a strong local group there. This training is relevant for people of all genders, community leaders, volunteers, service providers, emergency services, and anyone committed to building safer, more inclusive disaster responses.

Understanding these dynamics helps us support each other more effectively and strengthen the resilience of our whole community.

I poured my heart and soul into writing this book when I was at my most broken from the way Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are treated in this country. When I finished it, I was rebuilt, stronger - ready to keep campaigning for justice and recognition.

If you’ve wondered what you can do to fight racism against First Nations People, to help close the gap, to stop deaths in custody, to learn the history of our struggle or just make the world a better place, this book that I wrote exists to inspire you and guide you to take action.

Look it up online or ask your local book shop for a copy. I narrated the audio book in my own voice.

This review looks at a new book examining the global rise of populist leaders. But, Hoffman's review makes the case that while populism is a threat to democracy inequality is a more potent factor in democratic erosion.

A political scientist argues that democratic institutions need to stand up to authoritarians. But does that simply kick the can down the road?
