Daffodil 🌼 day

Today is Daffodil Day, and this year it is forty years of it.

When Cancer Council held the first one in 1986, five year cancer survival in Australia sat at around 46 per cent. It is now around 72 per cent. That did not happen by accident. It happened because for four decades ordinary people bought a pin, wore something yellow, put a tin on a counter and kept going.

One in two Australians will be diagnosed by the age of 85. There is not a family I know that has been left alone by it.

So today, wear something yellow. Donate if you can, at Cancer Council Australia

And if someone in your life is in the middle of it right now, do the small thing rather than the grand one. Ring them. Turn up. Put the kettle on and stay a while. That is what people remember.

This wonderful project is brought to us by the Southern Highlands Older Women's Network NSW.

It matches older women who need a home with women who have a self contained space in their home or on their property.

In the Blue Mountains, where it was first launched, it has successfully homed nearly 100
women.
