On Friday, we bade farewell to a truly beautiful soul. I first met Joy eight years ago at Pacific Runway™️ & she remained a very special friend & sister ever since.

She exemplified the true meaning of her name: Joy. She touched so many people with her warmth, love & kindness. For myself personally, she was always there with her support - sending constant messages of encouragement, attending our events & sharing her unwavering support & commitment to uplifting our community of makers, creatives & small businesses.

Her joy in supporting & uplifting others was immense & palpable. She was that rare person who had no ego. She wanted YOU to win, because to her, that meant we all win.

What a joy & what a privilege, it was to know you & be loved by you Joy. The world is honestly a sadder place without you in it 😔 But as Mal Fruean so beautifully eulogised on Friday, while we may be grieving here, on the other side of the veil, how overjoyed must your whānau be to have you with them.

Our deepest condolences, sympathies & aroha go out to Richard & the children.

We are so thrilled to have joining us for our Pop-Up Maketi 🌺 As well as being on the road touring as an amazing singer & performer, Juanita is also the incredibly talented maker & creative behind Vai Salt.

She will be bringing her beautiful handmade journals, fans & accessories which she creates from tapa & natural materials such as coconut shells, seashells & pandanus leaves 🍂

was inspired by the enduring bond between two sisters from the village of Lese Oalai, Mekeo, Papua New Guinea. Though separated by distance for much of their lives, their connection remained strong through letters, shared stories & unwavering support.

In 2024, the next generation returned to Mekeo for a family gathering that deepened their connection to culture, community & ancestral homeland. The experience also highlighted the challenges faced by many women in the village as they work to support their families & provide opportunities for their children.

Today, Susa Haus honours that legacy by creating opportunities for women in Mekeo to share & sell their handmade ve’a (bilums), helping preserve cultural traditions while supporting local livelihoods. Built on family, resilience, & sisterhood, Susa Haus carries forward a connection that spans generations, communities & oceans.

We’re so excited & so thrilled to welcome Susa Haus as a stallholder at our upcoming Pop-Up Maketi & to share their story, beautiful handmade ve’a, & community-driven vision with you all 🤎
