πŸ‹ A tree fell. A community came together. A whale emerged.
The Whale in the Tree is a moving 40-minute documentary that tells the remarkable true story of how an ancient fallen red gum tree was transformed into Buttons and Bobby – the Southern Right Whale mother and calf sculpture that now overlooks Ratalang Basham Beach in Middleton.

It's a story of imagination, determination, community spirit and seeing possibility where others see only what has fallen.

At next week's documentary screening at Middleton Pioneer Hall, we'll be hosting a wine tasting with Bleasdale Wines.

This is a fundraiser for Middleton, and it's a great opportunity to sample some exceptional local wines while supporting community projects.

By ordering through our fundraiser, you'll enjoy significant savings compared with standard cellar door prices, and every purchase helps raise funds for community projects in Middleton.

We'd love you to join us. Buy a $10 ticket to watch The Whale in the Tree documentary, enjoy a wine tasting, grab a $3.50 sausage, and spend some time with your community.

On a winter evening in June, the streets of Victor Harbor will glow. πŸ‹βœ¨

Glowing whale lanterns - each one handcrafted in community workshops, each one carrying a piece of the Kondoli story; will move through Warland Reserve, where the parade meets the sea for a final moment of shared storytelling.

This one is worth putting in the diary now. The Kondoli Lantern Parade is free, luminous and open to everyone. Gather along the route to watch, or join the procession and walk alongside the light.

Either way, it's the kind of evening you'll want to be part of.

From a fallen tree in a Naracoorte paddock to a stunning public artwork overlooking the sea at Middleton β€” this is a story of creativity, determination, generosity and what can happen when a community comes together behind a shared vision.

Middleton held its Anzac Day Remembrance Service this morning, with over 200 people coming together to pay their respects. It was a wonderful and moving service that reflected the deep respect our community holds for those who have served.

A sincere thank you to organiser Kym Rundle, MC Paul Shinkfield, all invited guests and our untiring volunteers who contributed to making this another outstanding occasion.

Following the service, refreshments β€” and of course, traditional Anzac biscuits β€” were shared, providing a chance for everyone to connect. Yet again, it was a beautiful example of Middleton’s strong and generous community spirit.
