TRIVIA DAY

Yes, it’s back again in 2026, with the same format as previous years. Questions will be provided by Brian and Jan Smith, with President Peter Baker asking the questions.

When:
Thursday 16 July, 2025, 10:00 am to 1:30 pm
(during the semester break)

Where:
Ascot Vale Neighbourhood Centre
101-105 Union Rd, Ascot Vale

Here’s a practice question to build your confidence - Where is the Dogger Bank?

Don’t know? Then call 3 friends or class mates and form a team and come to the 2026 Trivia Day.

How do you join, you ask! If you haven’t attended the quiz before, you can choose to come as an individual or a team of up to 4 people.

For $5 per person you get a light lunch and a chance to win door prizes, plus prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams. The questions are varied and cover a range of topics, including current affairs.

The quiz is in 4 parts, 20 questions in each part. Most are multiple choice, someone in your team is bound to know the answer!

What next?

1. Gather your team and give it a name. Perhaps others in your U3A class! Or enter as an individual and we’ll put you in a team.

2. Collect $5 from each member and do a bank transfer to:

Put your team / individual name in the Description section. Please note you can’t pay on the day as we don’t handle cash.

3. Email your team/individual name, with participants names and phone numbers to: [email protected]. Put Trivia Quiz and team name in the Subject line and indicate any special dietary needs. Please do this by Friday July 10 so catering can be organised.

Light lunch is provided but please remember to bring your own plate and cup.

PEDALLING FOR PLEASURE green group was out enjoying some winter sunshine on Friday. They rode through Westgate Park, down to St Kilda and back to Flinders Street. Today’s weather would not have been so pleasant!

MEMBER WIZARD is coming to our u3a!
What is it?
Basically, a new system to replace our current "myu3a" system
Your dedicated Committee is working hard to get it set up by the end of the 3rd quarter- and it will be the system we all use for next year's membership and enrolments.

Don't panic, it should be EASIER to use! Watch out for more information.

EAT WELL, LIVE WELL, AGE WELL - Vegetable Pastie

Friday’s recipe was a high protein vegetable pastie. Yes it's hard to believe but it's true. It uses Australian Sweet Lupin flour which is 40% protein by weight making it not quite double that of red meat. And the group loved it leaving only a tiny portion on the plate. MONDAY MORNING MOVERS - Eight dedicated walkers set out from Essendon Station for a meandering walk via tree lined streets to Crown St Stables for coffee. From there five remaining set out for a circuit of the Stock Route via the Women's Peace Garden, the Stock Bridge, Newell's Paddock and Lynch's Bridge mosaics. The walk terminated at Newmarket Station as the rain arrived. Total distance: 10.8 km
