For Srijana, safe healthcare began with finding someone she could trust.
A 27-year-old teacher and mother of two in Nepal, Srijana had already experienced two difficult caesarean births when she became pregnant again. She knew she did not want another child, but she was frightened.
A family experience of unsafe abortion had left a lasting impact.
Then she heard about Tika.
Tika is an experienced nurse and MSI Lady who travels through communities in Nepal’s Sindhuli District, bringing reproductive healthcare closer to women who may otherwise face hours of travel.
Tika provided Srijana with safe care, treated her with kindness and stayed awake through the night checking on her recovery.
“My abortion allowed me to continue working and taking care of my children.” — Srijana
Today, Srijana continues to teach and care for her family.
Across Nepal in 2024–25, MSI supported 12,850 clients, provided 67,640 services and delivered 17,692 couple years of contraceptive protection.
This World Patient Safety Day, their story reminds us that patient safety is not only about providing a clinically safe service. It is also about access, accurate information, dignity, trust and support throughout someone’s healthcare experience.
For people like Srijana, and providers like Tika, those values come together in something deeply human: being there when it matters.
