78 years ago today marks the start of the Malayan Emergency. Australia supported the British and then the newly established Malaysian Government to defeat communist rebels and insurgents as part of our commitments to the FESR and 28th Commonwealth Brigade. 62 Australians made the ultimate sacrifice in their service to make a more peaceful region and we honour their service.

PTE Arthur Robert Elliott
15 Bn, 4 Bde, 4 Div, 1st AIF

Also joining the ranks 110 years ago is the middle brother of the Elliott family. Born in Ipswich after his family had moved from the Logan Village area, Arthur and his brothers all joined the same year and were sent at various times to the Western Front. He was wounded at the battle of Messines in Jun 1917 and unfortunately on the 22nd Oct 1917, Arthur made the ultimate sacrifice from wounds sustained during the Battle of Passchendale, and was interred in France, he was a week short of his 22nd birthday. He was awarded the British War Medal and posthumously received the Victory Medal. We honour his service and sacrifice.

William returned to Australia after the war in Dec 1919 and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal for his service. We honour his service and memory.
