Daylight saving time begins this weekend, but not for everyone.

NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory will move their clocks one hour ahead at 2am on Sunday morning, while the remaining states and territory can enjoy an extra hour of sleep.

There are also some local variations including on Lord Howe Island where residents will move their clocks forward by 30 minutes rather than a full hour.

During daylight saving, Australia will operate across five time zones rather than its usual three.
