🔥 BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD – FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

October marks the official start of the Bush Fire Danger Period across most of NSW, including all six Local Government Areas within the Western Sydney District:

📍 Blacktown
📍 Camden
📍 Campbelltown
📍 Fairfield
📍 Liverpool
📍 Penrith

If you’re planning to conduct a burn, it’s important to know the rules before you light up.

🔥 During the Bush Fire Danger Period, a Fire Permit is required before lighting a fire in the open.

🏡 All six Local Government Areas within the Western Sydney District also require approval or permission from the relevant Council for open burning.

📢 In addition to obtaining the necessary approvals and Fire Permit, residents and landholders must notify their neighbours and the relevant fire authority at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

Fire Permits and notification requirements help ensure fire is used safely and reduce the risk to you, your property and the wider community.

Before conducting any burn, make sure you understand the requirements that apply to your property and have all necessary approvals in place.

HAZARD REDUCTION BURN NOTIFICATION
Wianamatta Regional Park, Ropes Crossing – September 2026

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), together with the NSW Rural Fire Service, intends to conduct a 49-hectare hazard reduction burn at Wianamatta Regional Park on Friday 18 September 2026, weather permitting.

The burn area is bounded by Palmyra Avenue to the north, Rocklea Way and Donavan Circuit to the east, and internal park roads and trails to the west.

This burn forms part of an ongoing fuel management program to help reduce the risk to surrounding properties from bush fires. If conditions are unsuitable on 18 September, the burn will be rescheduled for late September or early October.

Burning is expected to take one day, with crews continuing mop-up and patrol operations for several days afterwards to secure the area. All tracks and trails near the burn will remain closed until the area has been assessed and declared safe for public access.

Nearby residents may experience periods of smoke and ash fall during the operation.

The risk to properties during the burn is low. However, residents are encouraged to prepare by:

Clearing leaves and debris from gutters.
Removing combustible items from the asset protection zone behind their property.
Keeping pets secure and providing suitable shelter.
Closing windows and bringing washing indoors on the day.
Staying well clear of fire operations.
Staying indoors or planning to be away during the burn if they have asthma or another respiratory condition.

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Saturday 5 September for the Greater Sydney Region including Llandilo, with Extreme fire danger forecast.

Warm, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Remember to report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

HAZARD REDUCTION BURN - SEVENTH AVE

Crews have now commenced burning at the Seventh Avenue hazard reduction, the burn is expected to continue for the next few hours.

A reminder for nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed.

Only call 000 if you see an unattended fire, smoke will be visible from this burn.

NOTICE OF PROPOSED HAZARD REDUCTION | LLANDILO

Please be advised that NSWRFS crews are planning to undertake Hazard Reduction (HR) burning, weather permitting, at the following location this week.

Location: Seventh Ave Llandilo
Day: Saturday 15th August 2026
This hazard reduction burn is approximately 1ha in size.

As the prescribed burn will generate smoke, hot embers and heat, it is important that you consider the following:
• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes;
• Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns;
• Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage;
• Remove washing from clotheslines;
• Ensure pets have a protected area;
• If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on; and
• If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice
