KYDS Youth Counselling

KYDS Youth Counselling KYDS provides accessible counselling for young people up to the age of 19, without the need for a Medicare card, GP referral or mental health plan.

KYDS provides free, confidential counselling and mental health support services for young people up to the age of 19 (and their families) across Northern Sydney. Each year we deliver around 6000 sessions without the need for a Medicare card, GP referral or mental health plan. All of this ensures young people can access support when they need it, for as long as they need it, without any barriers. O

ur highly qualified counsellors and psychologists help young people understand, cope with and effectively manage issues such as bullying, stress, anxiety, relationship breakdowns, grief, loss, depression, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. KYDS also promotes mental wellbeing and the prevention of mental health difficulties in young people. We run school workshops, presentations and webinars to support youth (and their families) through challenges they might be facing, helping to build resilience and achieve their potential. We focus on long term management of issues and are not a crisis service. If you urgently require help, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 (these are 24-hour services). To contact a KYDS counsellor, call 02 9416 0900, 10am - 6pm Mon- Fri.

πŸ’™ A healthier community for everyone

This EOFY, your support can help create more stories of hope and positive change.

Young people don't always say, "I'm struggling."

Sometimes the signs are quieter.

It might be withdrawing from friends, avoiding activities they once loved, changes in mood, motivation or confidence.

These signs don't always mean a young person is in crisis. But they can be an opportunity to check in, listen and let them know they don't have to face things alone.

Early support can help young people build resilience, develop coping skills and feel connected when life feels overwhelming.

πŸ’™ A conversation can make a difference.
πŸ’™ Support can change a future.

Looking for practical ways to support the young person in your life? Join one of our Parent Information Sessions to learn more about youth mental health, recognise the signs of distress, and start supportive conversations.

At 15 years old, I genuinely couldn’t imagine a happy future for myself.

After experiencing a traumatic event, I felt frightened, ashamed and as if I had been robbed of my childhood. I remember feeling like a dark cloud was circling my head - and it followed me everywhere.

Then I walked into my first session at KYDS.

For the first time since my world had turned upside down, I felt safe. I felt heard. I had someone who was willing to sit beside me without judgement, while I worked through what had happened - at my own pace.

I was never told I’d reached my limit for sessions.
I was never turned away because I wasn’t considered β€œurgent enough.”
I was given the ongoing support I needed to heal properly.

And that ultimately changed my life.

Nearly 16 years later, I’ve built a life that 15-year-old me could never have imagined. I've completed university, travelled the world, and this weekend, I’ll be marrying my best friend.

That’s the power of accessible, long-term mental health support.

Right now, another young person is walking through KYDS’ doors carrying feelings they don't know how to process or explain.

Your donation will help ensure they can access counselling for as long as they need it - helping create a future that may not feel possible to them.

Because with the right support, a young person’s future can look completely different.

Just like mine.

We were so grateful for the opportunity to share more about the work KYDS does to support young people and families in our community, and to connect with a team so passionate about making a local impact.

The CommBank Community Donations program supports hundreds of grassroots organisations across Australia, helping fund essential services, programs and support where it’s needed most.

Thank you again to the Gordon branch team for your warm welcome and support of accessible youth mental health in our community.

Has your teen suddenly moved into a hoodie?

Do conversations now consist mainly of grunts, eye rolls, and requests for food?

Welcome to adolescence. πŸ˜…

The teenage years can be confusing, exhausting, and sometimes leave parents wondering what happened to the child who used to tell them everything.

The good news? You're not alone. And your young person isn't broken.

Join us for our FREE Parent Information Session: The Power of Connection and discover what's really happening beneath the surface during adolescence.

Together, we'll explore:
🧠 What’s happening in the adolescent brain
πŸ’› Why connection matters more than perfection
🌱 Practical ways to stay connected through the ups and downs
🀝 How to support your young person when they're overwhelmed

Because behind the closed bedroom doors and "I'm fine" responses, many young people are still asking one important question:

"Am I still your pride and joy?"

Expect practical tools, a little neuroscience, some humour, and plenty of reassurance.

For some families, five days at school in a row might seem ordinary.

For one young person supported by KYDS, it meant everything.

After months of anxiety, overwhelm, and struggling simply to get through the school gates, they finally made it through a full week at school.

Not because things suddenly became easy.
But because they had support.
A safe space.
Someone who kept showing up for them.

Their parent told us:
β€œIt was the first time in months we felt hope again.”

This is the difference ongoing mental health support can make.

Right now, more young people are reaching out for help - and every decision to give, fundraise, or share our message helps create more moments like this.
