KYABRAM TOWN MEETING FLOOD UPDATE 🌧️

A big thank you to everyone who attended the recent town meeting and shared their thoughts & experiences on the March flood event.

A report from the meeting has been generated and will be distributed to attendees shortly. A subcommittee will be established to progress the key priorities and recommendations identified through community feedback.

The report highlights the strength and resilience of the Kyabram community, while also identifying opportunities for improved planning, communication and infrastructure management to better prepare for future flood events.

If you haven’t already, take a listen to KDC Secretary Renee Pichler’s recent interview on Goulburn Valley One FM discussing the flood impacts on our community.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their experiences and ideas. Please keep an eye out for an online survey that can be completed for those who weren’t able to attend. Your input will help inform future advocacy and action on behalf of our community.

As we round out National Volunteers Week for 2026, we want to shout out to the volunteers and community groups who quietly keep Kyabram ticking over ~ we see you.

The Kyabram & District Historical Society Inc. & Hazelman’s Cottage volunteers preserving the stories of those who built this town. The walking encyclopaedias of Kyabram history. The working bees, restoration projects, research, storytelling and countless hours ensuring our history isn’t lost with time.

The Rotary Club of Kyabram, Lions Club of Kyabram Inc, the volunteers at Kyabram & District Health Services, Kyabram Community & Learning Centre (KCLC) … (just to name a few, there are so many more) volunteer drivers and community members who constantly show up, give back and support others without asking for recognition. Reliable. Consistent. Community-minded.

To the committees advocating for a fair go for Kyabram ~ it’s tiring and sometimes (often) defeating to constantly fight for a fair go for our town. But we see you & we thank you for making the stand and for always showing up.

And to every local sports club, kids sport, event committee and volunteer-run organisation (Breen Avenue Walking Track parkrun 👏🏼 Kyabram Little Athletics ~ just to name a few!) none of these opportunities happen without people willing to step up and bring it to life.

Volunteering looks different these days. Life is busier, families are stretched thinner and people are more time poor than ever before. But communities like ours still rely on good people willing to contribute where they can.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering ~ maybe this is your sign. Even a small amount of time can make a huge difference.

Kyabram still has a small country town heart because of people like you. ❤️🖤

Happy National Volunteer Week 👏🏼

📣 NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK SHOUTOUT

Kyabram Town Hall

We want to acknowledge the incredible volunteers behind the beautiful Kyabram Town Hall.

A true centrepiece of our town, the Town Hall is more than just a building ~ it is history, culture, art, celebrations and community connection all under one roof.

Behind the scenes are volunteers who quietly give their time, energy and care to keep its doors open, history preserved and spaces alive for future generations to enjoy. From events and exhibitions to maintenance, organising and community support ~ so much of what happens here is possible because of people willing to step up for their town.

In a growing community, places like the Town Hall help keep the heart of Kyabram strong. Thank you to every volunteer who helps protect and continue such an important part of our community story.

Your efforts do not go unnoticed. 🤍

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, Maxine Schumann shares why giving back is just as important for the individual as it is for the community.

📣 NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK SHOUTOUT

🎥 The iconic Kyabram Plaza Theatre 🌟

Kyabram Plaza Theatre

A building full of history, memories, laughter, performances and stories. One of the most beautiful pieces of our town ~ kept alive by its amazing team of volunteers.

The people behind the scenes who give their time to preserve not just a building, but a feeling. A piece of Kyabram history that generations have grown up with.

From maintenance and events to tickets, fundraising and restoration ~ volunteers keep the curtains opening and the lights on.

In a world where so much history disappears, thank you for protecting ours. 🎭

Is it You Year To Volunteer?
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering at the Plaza Theatre, there is an information evening on tonight. See the info in the comments below!

📢 NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK SHOUTOUT

To the volunteers of the local CFA Kyabram Fire Brigade ~ THANK YOU 🧡

The ones who leave dinner half eaten, walk away from family events, jump out of bed in the middle of the night, or leave work at a moment’s notice because someone in the community needs help.

A rapidly growing town still held together by small-town values. People looking after people.

Doing your best with the resources you have, giving your time freely, simply for the love of your community. Protecting neighbours, friends, farms, homes and strangers alike.

You are the backbone of towns like Kyabram.

For every call out, every fundraiser, every training night, every unseen sacrifice ~ we thank you. ❤️🚒
