Today, Amy, Marissa & Martha were delighted to present a copy of their book Yu Numu Wangulubala / You Are Not Alone to the team at Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre!

GYRACC is a place that our participants love to visit, and it was no surprise that the ladies decided to feature it in their book πŸ˜ŠπŸ–ΌοΈβ€οΈ

EXCITING NEWS!

Congratulations to Step Out participants Amy Pitcher & Marissa Watson who have written a book with the support of Martha Green πŸ“–πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

The book – Yu Numu Wangulubala / You Are Not Alone – is a fictional story about a young Aboriginal woman in a wheelchair who feels disconnected from her community. With the help of a friend, she discovers the many activities and opportunities available here in Katherine, and learns that talking to someone or engaging in activities you enjoy can really help when you’re feeling down.

Amy created the cover artwork with support from Martha, and Step Out collaborated with Ngukurr Language Centre to have the book translated into Kriol.

A huge thank you to Jo Hersey-Member for Katherine for stopping by the office yesterday. Marissa, Amy & Martha were thrilled to provide her with a signed copy of the book!

More news about this exciting project is coming soon...

Recently, we have started a fortnightly music session as part of our Community Access Program. Did you know that music has been shown to be extremely beneficial for people with disability? It can enhance communication and social interaction, assist with emotional regulation, as well as cognitive and sensory engagement, amongst many other benefits!

A huge thank you to our talented staff member Jasper for bringing this initiative to life! 🎼🎡🎢

Mental health is something that we are extremely passionate about at Step Out. Recently, our staff and participants, led by the brilliant Martha Green, put together a video to shine a spotlight on the importance of mental health awareness.

This , let’s commit to destigmatising mental health, ending bullying, and speaking up - even if our voices shake πŸ’™

πŸ“£ We’ve Moved!

After many wonderful years at 28 First St, Step Out has officially moved to our new home at 298 Zimin Drive.

While we’re sad to say goodbye to our beautiful old building and all the memories we’ve created there, we’re incredibly excited about this next chapter and the opportunities our new space makes possible for both our participants and staff.

Think lush tropical gardens for picnics in the dry season; a great big workshop for woodwork and other handyman projects; multiple private offices and meeting rooms; a beautiful open plan kitchen; endless gardening opportunities – and that's just the beginning!

This will be our forever home, and we can't wait to share it with you.
