Great to see Individualised Living Arrangements (ILA) featured on ABC's 7.30 last night.

Individualised living arrangements are an alternative to group homes and SIL houses. These are person centred living arrangements.

We agree with Christine Bigby that good-quality support is vital. But so too are connection to community, freedom and choice about who you live with and who supports you, opportunities to contribute, a sense of belonging, and freely given relationships.

These are all important features of individualised living arrangements.

Individualised living arrangements can work successfully for people with a wide range of support needs, including people with high and complex support requirements.

It's also important not to confuse ILA with ILO. ILO is an NDIS funding package. Many, if not most, people living in an individualised living arrangement do so using flexible Core Supports funding rather than an ILO package.

💜 What a fantastic day in Parramatta!

Yesterday’s Community: Where Belonging Begins workshop with Cormac Russell was a wonderful success, bringing together a full room of people passionate about building stronger, more connected communities.

A highlight of the day was the hands-on community mapping activity, where participants headed out in small groups around Parramatta to discover the people, places, gathering spaces, associations and everyday strengths that already exist within the local community.

It was a great opportunity to put the ideas of Asset-Based Community Development into practice, shifting the focus from “What’s wrong?” to “What’s strong?” and exploring how these local assets can create greater connection, contribution and belonging for people with disability.

Thank you to Cormac and everyone who joined us and brought such energy, curiosity and ideas to the day! 🙌
