A Village for Every Child

A Village for Every Child A Village for Every Child believe that children are the heart of our community and deserve the best possible start to life.

We envision a Belconnen where every child thrives – physically healthy, emotionally resilient, socially connected, and fully prepared for lifelong learning and growth. That’s why we focus on improving the systems across Belconnen that supports children to be physically healthy, socially adaptable, emotionally resilient, fully prepared for lifelong learning and growth. Our mission is to improve the

support network for children and families by bringing families, community members, child and family support organisations, education providers, and government agencies together to increase:
- Awareness about early childhood development,
- Connections between families and early years services, and
- Engagement among parents, families, and support services. When working together, the community is stronger, the early years sector is more connected, and therefore the system is better able to meet the needs of the children and families. We want every family to feel supported, empowered and equipped for raising children. Read more ://belconnenvillage.org.au/

🎉 International Day of Play | 11 June 🎉

Today we celebrate the International Day of Play, a global initiative that recognises something every child deserves and needs, the right to play.

Play is much more than fun. Through play, children build confidence, develop social and emotional skills, strengthen their creativity, solve problems, and make sense of the world around them. Research continues to show that play is essential for healthy development and wellbeing. It is not a luxury or an extra, it is a necessity.

At A Village for Every Child, we know that strong communities are built when children have opportunities to connect, explore, imagine, and belong. That is why creating playful spaces and experiences is so important for every child, every family, and every neighbourhood.

This International Day of Play, we encourage everyone to:

🔴Make time for play
🟠Celebrate everyday moments of playfulness
🟡Reflect on how we can better support children's right to play
🟢Spread the word about the importance of play in children's lives

We are pleased to share the attached resources from local play advocate Kylie Keane, from Keen About, which highlight why play matters and how individuals, organisations, schools, and communities can get involved in supporting children's right to play.

How will you make time for play today?

We are pleased to share the latest progress report.

Over the past months, our community has continued to come together to support children and families through stronger connections, practical support, and shared learning.

What we have achieved together:
• Delivered community workshops supporting families with practical, everyday knowledge
• Brought together educators, health professionals and services to strengthen collaboration
• Reached over 100 families through inclusive community events
• Supported early literacy, with thousands of books delivered to local children
• Listened to families and professionals to better understand barriers to accessing support

This work is grounded in a clear need. Recent AEDC data shows that many children are still starting school without the support they need, reinforcing the importance of early, connected, place-based action.

Thank you to our partners, families and community members who continue to make this work possible.
