Carers ACT Acting CEO Victoria Dolphin and Board Chair Thilini Perera attended the Parliamentary Friends of Carers event at Parliament House yesterday. With representatives from other carer networks across Australia and carers sharing their experiences, Parliamentarians heard about the growing challenges faced by carers. Issues such as the importance of respite, recognition and support of carers in the workplace, and cost of living pressures were highlighted through the speakers and informal discussions that followed.

Carers ACT remains committed to ensuring carers’ voices are represented in these national conversations and to working collaboratively with governments, organisations and communities to strengthen recognition, support and outcomes for carers

National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect on our shared histories, recognise the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and consider how we can continue working towards reconciliation together.

At Carers ACT, we also acknowledge the important role First Nations carers play within families, communities and culture, and the knowledge, care and connection they continue to carry across generations.

Tomorrow, carers will come together at the National Portrait Gallery for a meaningful afternoon of reflection, conversation and shared learning during our National Reconciliation Week event.

Carers will explore powerful stories and achievements of First Nations peoples before enjoying lunch and connection together at the Portrait Gallery Café.

We currently have a small number of places still available and warmly invite carers to join us.
