This is a great graphic to explain the reasons why potentially unsafe products are sold.
There are many products on the market which carry risks so it is very much buyer beware and unfortunately the onus is on the consumer to do their research. If consumers believe a product is unsafe concerns can be registered with Product Safety Australia on this link.

As your baby grows and becomes more mobile and curious, their sleep environment will need to change too.

Take a moment to look at their world from their perspective and ask yourself:

Can baby move?
Are they starting to roll, wriggle or move around?

Can baby sit?
Are they sitting independently or trying to sit?

Can baby stand?
Are they pulling themselves up or attempting to stand?

Can baby reach?
What can they now grab, touch or pull towards themselves?

Is baby becoming more aware of their hands?
Are they reaching, grasping and intentionally interacting with objects?

Can baby poke, prod or pull?
Are they discovering new ways to explore what’s around them?

Is baby becoming more curious about their environment?
Are they actively looking, reaching and trying to explore?

Every new skill brings new possibilities and new things to consider.

Regularly reassessing your baby’s sleep environment as they develop can help you identify potential hazards and keep their sleep space appropriate for their changing abilities.

A simple way to check if your baby is at a comfortable temperature is to feel their chest or upper tummy, as this reflects their core body temperature. It's normal for babies' hands and feet to feel cooler, so they aren't a reliable guide.
Your baby's chest or tummy should feel comfortably warm to the touch (not hot, sweaty, or cold).

By dressing your baby appropriately for the room temperature and checking their core temperature regularly, you can help keep them safe and comfortable while they sleep.

It can be tempting to fill the cot with bumpers, quilts and toys or even decorate the cot with bunting, but all of these items are potentially dangerous. Remember a clear cot free of potential hazards is the safest option.

International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day on October 15 is a time to remember all babies and infants gone too soon, and to acknowledge the profound impact pregnancy and infant loss can have on families.

For those who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss, the grief can continue long after the loss itself. This day provides an opportunity for the wider community to pause, remember and show compassion and support.

❤️Our sister organisation, Red Tree Foundation, asks you to wear something red on October 15 to show your support for friends, family members and colleagues who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Your simple gesture can help raise awareness, open conversations and remind grieving families that their babies are remembered.

Across South Australia, the SA Government and several councils are also showing their support by lighting up buildings and structures in red on October 15.

See the list below to find out which locations will be illuminated in red as we come together to remember, honour and raise awareness for all babies and infants gone too soon.
