Plast Leadership Course – Adelaide – 29 to 31 May

Friday 31 to Sunday 31 of May was a big weekend for Plast (Ukrainian Scouting Organisation) and for the Ukrainian community in Adelaide. Plastuny (Scouts) from across Australia came to Adelaide for the first registered KV1 Leadership Course (Vyshkil) for cubs and brownies (Novatstvo) instructors to be held in Australia. This weekend focussed on the needs of the next generation of cubs and brownies , and to reflect on the role each Plastun (Scout) plays in shaping the future of Plast in Australia.

The weekend started in the Ukrainian Community Centre in Hindmarsh which houses one of the best Plast Museums in the world, followed by dinner in the Kozak Bar.

The Leadership Course itself was held in the Girl Guides of South Australia's property, GTS Dolphin. It is a premier water activities and adventure camp located on Snowden’s Beach along the Port River, and it serves as a major hub for youth camps, water sports, and community events.

UPN would like to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the three days. A special thank you to:

St. Pl. Tayissa Oleksyn – Commandant
Pl. Sen. Tomas Miljenovic – Deputy Commandant
St. Pl. Olesya Bernyk – “Bunchuzhna”
Pl. Sen. Olena Kulyk – Secretary
Pl. Sen. Adrian Myroniuk – “Intendant”

UPN would also like to extend their sincere thanks to Plast South Australia for hosting the Leadership Course and for their great catering. The knowledge, ideas, and connections developed over these three days will have an impact far beyond the training course itself, helping to shape the experiences, memories, and values of countless young cubs (novaky) and brownies (novachky) for years to come.

The organisers were very pleased with a fantastic turnout of 31 Plastuny, including 24 participants from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart. The weekend was an inspiring reminder of the important role Plast plays in the lives of many within our Ukrainian community. The future of Plast in Australia is in capable hands!

This year for the second year in a row, Plast observed Kyiv Day with a special charitable fun run. Kyiv Day is held on the 31st of May and this year it coincided with the National UPN Leadership Course in Adelaide. The funds raised were donated to the Centre for Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Ukraine to help children receive the medical care they need.
