Free flights for remote and rural Queenslanders struggling to reach medical appointments.

✈️ FLIGHT 226 | HERVEY BAY → SUNSHINE COAST

Today, 28 October 2026, volunteer pilot Dan took to the skies in the Community Flights Piper Arrow II, flying patient Danny and his support person from Hervey Bay to the Sunshine Coast for Danny’s medical appointment.

Like so many of our flights, there was a lot more happening behind the scenes than simply getting an aircraft from A to B.

So, we put Plan B into action.

Through our partnership with Airbnb.org, we arranged accommodation for Danny and his support person overnight at no cost. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership, which allows us to step in when unexpected circumstances arise.

We also organised and covered the cost of all their ground transport on the Sunshine Coast, including transport between the airport, hospital and accommodation.

And tomorrow, Hervey Bay Shuttle Bus Service will collect them and bring them safely home, with Community Flights covering that cost too.

Most importantly, Danny and his support person will not be out of pocket for any of these additional costs.

When a flight doesn’t go according to plan, our job doesn’t simply stop at the airport. We work behind the scenes to find solutions, rearrange transport and accommodation, and make sure our patients aren’t left navigating unexpected costs or logistics on their own.

✈️ FLIGHT 225 | HERVEY BAY → ARCHERFIELD

On 22 October 2026, we were back in the skies with another Community Flights journey, helping patient Kylie travel from Hervey Bay to Archerfield for her medical care.

Volunteer pilot and CEO Mark once again took the controls of the Community Flights Piper Arrow, flying Kylie safely to Archerfield. ✈️💙

Once on the ground, TransitCare’s Community Flyer service was there to help with the next part of Kylie’s journey, providing free ground transport from Archerfield to her hospital.

It’s easy to look at a flight and think the journey starts and ends at the airport, but for our patients, getting to and from their medical appointment involves several important pieces. Having partners like TransitCare helping with free ground transport makes a huge difference.

Thank you to Mark for volunteering his time to fly our patients, and to TransitCare for continuing to support Community Flights and helping our patients get where they need to go. 🚐💚

✈️ FLIGHTS 223 & 224 | HERVEY BAY → ARCHERFIELD → HERVEY BAY

On 13 October 2026, Community Flights was back in the air, this time with a full aircraft carrying patient Patricia, her support person and Jenny from Hervey Bay to Archerfield for their medical appointments.

Our volunteer pilot and CEO, Mark, was at the controls of the Community Flights Piper Arrow, making the return journey possible for all three passengers. ✈️💙

But getting to a medical appointment involves more than just the flight. Once they arrived at Archerfield, TransitCare’s Community Flyer service provided free ground transport, helping Patricia, her support person and Jenny travel between the airport and their hospitals.

After their appointments, TransitCare was there again to get them back to Archerfield in time for their flight home. 🚐💚

It’s a great example of what can happen when organisations work together. Community Flights takes care of the air travel, TransitCare helps with the ground transport, and together we can remove some of the barriers that can make accessing healthcare so difficult.

✈️ FLIGHTS 221 & 222 | HERVEY BAY → ARCHERFIELD → HERVEY BAY

On 7 October 2026, volunteer pilot Dan took to the skies in the Community Flights Piper Arrow, flying patient Breannah and her Mum from Hervey Bay to Archerfield for Breannah’s medical appointment. ✈️💙

After landing at Archerfield, TransitCare’s Community Flyer service helped with the next part of their journey, providing free transport to and from the hospital. 🚐💚

Once Breannah’s appointment was finished, TransitCare helped get them back to Archerfield in time for their return flight home with Dan.

It might look like a simple flight on paper, but there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes to make these journeys possible. From our volunteer pilots, to free ground transport, it takes a team effort to help patients get where they need to go for essential medical care.

A huge thank you to Dan for volunteering his time and flying our Community Flights aircraft, and to TransitCare for continuing to support our patients with free transport throughout their medical journeys. 💙

✈️ FLIGHTS 219 & 220 | HERVEY BAY → ARCHERFIELD → HERVEY BAY

On 29 September 2026, we had another busy day in the skies, with volunteer pilot Aaron flying three people, two patients and one carer, from Hervey Bay to Brisbane for their medical appointments.

Aaron took the controls of his Rockwell Commander VH-RNS and flew the group to Archerfield Airport. ✈️💙

From there, TransitCare's Community Flyer service helped with the next leg of the journey, transporting all three to the hospital for their appointments. 🚐💚

For patients Tania and Kelly, their appointments required an overnight stay in Brisbane, so Community Flights also arranged free accommodation for them through our partnership with Airbnb.org.

Patient Mike, however, was able to return home to Hervey Bay that same afternoon. TransitCare once again stepped in, transporting Mike from the hospital back to Archerfield Airport in time for his flight home with Aaron.

It's a great example of how every patient journey can look a little different, and how much coordination happens behind the scenes to make sure each person gets the support they need.

From the volunteer pilot, to free ground transport and accommodation, we're working to remove as many barriers as possible for patients who need to travel for medical care.

✈️ FLIGHT 218 | HERVEY BAY → GOLD COAST

Sometimes the flights we organise at the last minute are the ones that take the most coordination. 💙

On Sunday, 27 September, our team pulled together a last-minute flight to help patient Kyla and her partner Charles travel from Hervey Bay to the Gold Coast for Kyla's non-emergency surgery.

Volunteer pilot Aaron took the controls of the Community Flights Rockwell Commander VH-RNS and safely flew them south. ✈️

Knowing they would need to stay on the Gold Coast for several days, we also arranged four nights of free accommodation through our partnership with Airbnb.org, taking another significant expense off their shoulders. 🏡💚

Unfortunately, we weren't able to fly Kyla and Charles home following her surgery. But that didn't mean their journey home was left for them to figure out.

We arranged and covered the cost of their return transport, with Atkinson's Specialist Shuttles generously providing us with a discount to help reduce the cost to the charity. 🙏

On 1st October, Kyla and Charles travelled from the Gold Coast to Brisbane Airport, where they met the Atkinsons team and were transported all the way back to their home in Hervey Bay. 🚐

From the initial flight, to accommodation, to getting them safely home, the entire journey was provided free of charge to Kyla and Charles.

This is what community support looks like. It takes volunteer pilots, accommodation partners, transport providers, donors, sponsors and a dedicated team behind the scenes to make journeys like this happen, especially when plans need to come together quickly.
