This is what we are talking about. Thank you to all our servicemen. Veterans are awesome.
Melbourne RSL affiliates with several ex-service organisations that support veterans, serving ADF members and families. Through its partnership with Defence in Business we have asked representatives of Soldier On, Australian National Veteran Art Museum (ANVAM), Melbourne Legacy, DVA Open Arms and RSL Victoria to present an overview of their services at a networking event “Veteran Support Teams” on the 29th July 2026. ANVAM, the Australian National Veterans Arts Museum is Australia’s national organisation for Veterans Arts and wellbeing. It supports the mental, physical and social wellbeing of the Veteran Community through creative engagement, connection and storytelling. ANVAM defines the Veteran Community broadly, welcoming current serving ADF members, former serving members and the families who share the experience and impact of service.
ANVAM’s work is based on a powerful idea: the arts can help people reconnect — with themselves, with others and with community. For many veterans and Defence families, service and transition can involve loss of structure, identity and connection. ANVAM provides a safe, respectful and inclusive place where people can explore creativity, tell their stories and build new relationships.
Its programs include facilitated arts activities, creative workshops, exhibitions, veteran-led projects, wellbeing advocacy and referrals for DVA compensation services. These programs are designed to support emotional, physical, mental and social wellbeing, and are suitable for experienced artists, emerging artists, or people who are simply curious about trying something creative.
ANVAM also helps the wider community better understand the lived experience of military service through exhibitions, events and public storytelling. Its Festival of Veteran Arts celebrates creativity across visual art, photography, textiles, performance, music, writing, film, craft and design.
Through art, advocacy and community, ANVAM offers veterans, serving ADF members and families a meaningful pathway to create, connect and thrive.
