This video presentation has been designed to give you a teaser-taste of all the excitement and action of our upcoming annual Hospitality in Healthcare Culinary Competition -- returning for its 5th year at our National Conference in October.

Check out the atmosphere, the appreciation of the crowd and the nail-biting suspense as our finalists from last year compete in a live cook-off with the audience counting down to the last moment as each prepares their dishes.

And on Tuesday October 13 it's all set to happen again, as our four finalist teams pit their skills against their peers and against the clock, showcasing their creativity before our panel of expert judges.

We're thrilled to have secured chef and hospitality trainer glenn_flood as this year's MC, and to have on board as sponsors Unox Australia & New Zealand, Moffat, Bega Foodservice, Meyer Food Co. and Nestlé Professional Australia.

The Competition publicly acknowledges the culinary skills of chefs and cooks in health and aged care – whose talents often go unrecognised. We encourage chefs across health and aged care to enter this exciting and rewarding event! Full details and link to enter at https://www.ihhc.org.au/culinary-competition/

Every year on 7 June organisations like FAO and WHO join governments and partners worldwide to mark World Food Safety Day, highlighting food safety as a shared right and responsibility and a call to collective action.

The Day mobilizes policymakers, food businesses, scientists and consumers to strengthen food safety through cooperation and political commitment, protecting lives, supporting prosperity and building a safer future.

The 2026 theme, “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere”, stresses the role of data and science in guiding action.

Safe food starts with understanding which foodborne hazards cause the greatest harm. By measuring the public health burden and its causes, we can prioritize evidence-based actions, target interventions and use resources where they will have the greatest impact.

Did you know Australia has one of the highest rates of food allergies in the world, with almost 2 million Australians living with a food allergy? That's the word from Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, which is running Food Allergy Week this week to raise awareness of food allergy in Australia.

We also have one of the highest rates of hospital anaphylaxis admissions in the world. There has been a 51% increase in anaphylaxis presentations to emergency departments in a 5-year period, growing to more than 11,500 per year.

In 2026 the theme for Food Allergy Week is focused on anaphylaxis and knowing what to do in an emergency – and the message is "Recognise the signs, be ready to react". Awareness and education help reduce the risk of allergic reactions, and effectively treat potentially life-threatening emergencies when they happen.

Hospitality in Healthcare encourages our members, supporters and friends to give their support to this important initiative.
