🐾✨ A special night for Coogee Lions ✨🐾

What a wonderful meeting we had last night at our new 2026 venue - the Royal Hotel in Randwick !

It was an especially meaningful evening as we celebrated the graduation of our recently sponsored Lions Assistance Dogs Hearing Assistance Dog, Sally 🐶💛

Kaye Blackman shared her heartfelt thanks to Coogee Lions Club for our support in sponsoring Sally and contributing to her training and placement.

Coogee Lions Club President, Sari-Elle Kraemer , had the honour of officially presenting Sally with her graduation collar, recognising that she has successfully passed all requirements and is now a fully qualified Hearing Assistance Dog. 🎓🐾

Hearing Assistance Dogs like Sally are trained to identify around ten common household sounds and alert their handler by touching their leg with a paw before leading them to the source. The only exception is the smoke alarm where the dog will touch their handler’s leg and then drop to the ground as a safety signal. They also undergo extensive public-access training and accreditation to ensure they’re calm, confident and well-behaved in all public environments.

Moments like these are what Lions is all about - making a real difference in people’s lives and seeing that impact come to life.

It was lovely to have some fresh new faces at the meeting last night - we are so excited to welcome you to our club.

For anyone else interested in coming along to our next meeting, please direct message Coogee Lions for details 🦁

Our community has been deeply impacted by the horrible events over the weekend. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, their families, friends and those who are hurting at this time.

The NSW Government has created a website with resources and updates following the Bondi Beach attack.

We encourage the community to check this site for the most up to date information, resources and support.

The website is being updated regularly.

https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/bondi-beach-attack

Like so many people, the act of senseless violence at Bondi Beach last evening has left me and the Lions Australia community saddened, that a happy Sunday evening turned to tragedy for so many families, and appalled that such a situation has occurred.

Lions Clubs International Purposes include:
· To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the people of the world.
· To promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.

As such, we condemn such acts of violence as we saw yesterday. Acts that are driven by hatred, lack of understanding or philosophy differences have no place in Australian society.

Amongst the horror, we have heard about so many people who without thinking, helped out – whether disarming the gunman, providing first aid and medical assistance, shielding children, providing moral or financial support and so much more. These people deserve our gratitude and respect.
They are heroes without a cape.

To the First Responders - your courage, professionalism and caring is tested every day, but no more than yesterday. Thank you – for yesterday, and for what you do every day.

Our thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones. We wish the injured a speedy and complete recovery. And we hope the memories of the tragedy fade over time, but memories of the people who moved towards the violence to assist remain.

It is a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives, lost loved ones or suffered injuries if we choose love over hatred, compassion over anger and respect and understanding over division.

Yesterday, Coogee Lions Club welcomed a very special four-legged friend to our community - Lions Assistance Dog Sally!

Sally is a gorgeous black Labradoodle (don’t be fooled we know her coat makes her look like a Cocker Spaniel!) and she was trained in Adelaide through as a Lions Hearing Assistance Dog. At just 16 months old, she is already excelling in her work. Great job to her trainer Ashleigh who has travelled to Sydney to deliver Sally to her new home this week.

For the next 12 weeks, our Coogee Lions volunteers will be doing three check-ins a week with Sally and her recipient Kaye to help test sounds, support her progress, and make sure she’s on track in her training. If she passes her final tests at the end of this period, she will become a fully accredited Lions Hearing Assistance Dog - a life-changing support for Kaye.

Shortly after applying for a Hearing Dog, Kaye and her husband Lynden joined Coogee Lions Club, and we are so excited to have them and to welcome Sally into our Lions family. We can’t wait to see her at our meetings and around the community.

Welcome to our community, Sally. We’re so happy to have you in the pride. 💛🦁🐾

✨ What a special night for Coogee Lions Club✨

Last night we gathered for our annual Gratitude Attitude Evening - a highlight on our calendar where we celebrate community spirit and disperse funds raised throughout the year.

This year’s recipients of $2,000 each were four incredible local charities doing life-changing work:
💛 Diva Charity Incorporated
💛 The Deli Women and Children's Centre
💛 Thread Together
💛 Homeless Not Nameless

We were proud to host the event at the brand-new CaringKids Charity Toy Workshop in Banksmeadow. Caring Kids is a Coogee Lions project supported by Lions Clubs all over Australia.

A huge congratulations to our hardworking members , our major sponosrs Platinum Pre School and Coogee Bay Hotel and of course a heartfelt thanks to our community. Your raffle tickets, donations, and support throughout the year help make nights like this possible. 💙🦁

In addition to supporting these amazing local organisations, Coogee Lions has backed a range of Lions Australia projects and foundations this year including Lions Assistance Dogs

We were also lucky to have Ashleigh, one of the Lions Assistance Dogs trainers, join us. She’s here visiting from Adelaide to help deliver and train a Lions Hearing Dog for a local resident in Randwick.

And in even more good news - that local resident has now joined Coogee Lions! 💛🦁 We’re thrilled to welcome another dedicated community member into the pride.

Here’s to another year of service, connection and community impact.

Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion 🦁
