Clematis Volunteer Fire Brigade Established 1936. For 90 years, generations of volunteers have protected the Clematis community. Proudly serving the Dandenong Ranges as part of CFA.

The Clematis Fire Brigade is a fully volunteer Fire Brigade that is part of the Country Fire Authority (CFA). It services the Clematis areas and support into neighbouring areas including Menzies Creek, Narre Warren East and Emerald including the township. The Clematis Fire Brigade was formed in 1936. In 2016 the brigade will be celebrating it's 80th Birthday. Our station is located on Wellington R

oad which received renovations in 2001 and again in 2006 funded fully by community donations. The extension gave the brigade the facility to house 3 firefighting vehicles being our Tanker (2.4D) Slip-on and Forward Command Vehicle (FCV), which is setup as a Strike Team Leaders vehicle. Clematis has been involved with nearly every major fire around Victoria and even some Interstate. Including Ash Wednesday, 1997 Dandenong Ranges Fires, 01/02 NSW Fires, 03 North East and Gippsland Fires, 06 Morwell Open Cut Mine and 06/07 Great Divide Complex and more recent the Black Saturday Bushfires, 2013 Fires as well as taking part in the 2011 Floods. As well as weekly training and meetings the members attend on average 90 calls per year. The Brigade holds training at 7.30pm every Wednesday night.

DOUBLE ASSESSMENT SUCCESS AT CLEMATIS!

It’s been a big few months for training and development at Clematis Fire Brigade, with two of our members successfully completing important assessments today!

Harry, our newest firefighter, successfully completed his General Firefighter practical assessment. This means Harry will now become an operational firefighter with the brigade and begin turning out to emergency calls alongside our crews.

Our Brigade Captain, Jarryd, also successfully completed his final assessment for his Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This qualification will see CFA gain another volunteer instructor, helping train and develop firefighters across the organisation into the future.

These are just two examples of the nationally recognised training and development opportunities available to CFA volunteers.

MULTI-AGENCY RESPONSE — WELLINGTON ROAD, CLEMATIS

Tonight, Clematis Fire Brigade responded to a multiple-vehicle collision on Wellington Road.

A multi-agency response saw CFA, Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police working together to manage the incident, with a few people assessed and treated at the scene for minor injuries.

We’d particularly like to acknowledge the members of the public who stopped and provided assistance before emergency services arrived. Your willingness to help was greatly appreciated and shows great community strength.

Thank you also to the motorists who slowed down, remained patient and gave emergency service personnel the space to work safely while the scene was established and managed.

The scene has now been made safe and the vehicles removed.

A good example of emergency services and the community working together when it matters.

WINTER TRAINING WRAPPED UP

Last night, Clematis crews headed to VEMTC Bangholme to consolidate our winter training program with a series of realistic, scenario-based drills.

Crews worked through structure fire response, search and rescue, casualty handling and patient care, incident management, and tactical and strategic communications — bringing together many of the skills we’ve been developing over winter.

Importantly, the night gave our developing Lieutenants and crew leaders the opportunity to take command and consolidate their skills in a controlled environment. Less experienced firefighters were paired with experienced members, creating an opportunity to practise current techniques while also learning from those who have applied them when real incidents don’t quite follow the training script.

That combination of training, experience and teamwork is how we build confident and capable crews.

Our members performed exceptionally well and finished the night with plenty of lessons learned and another solid block of training behind them.

With our winter program coming to a close, our attention now turns to pre-summer training and preparing our crews for the fire season ahead.

Train together. Learn together. Be ready together.

Today, members of Clematis Fire Brigade attended the launch of the Emerald Village Pharmacy Power Trailer at Puffing Billy Park

Clematis Fire Brigade was pleased to support Emerald Village Pharmacy grant application for this important community initiative, made possible through funding from AusNet’s Energy Resilience Grant program.

The mobile generator will help ensure Emerald Village Pharmacy can continue providing access to essential medications, pharmaceutical services and care during prolonged power outages and severe storm events — something particularly important for communities across the Dandenong Ranges.

A great example of local organisations working together to build a safer and more resilient community.

Congratulations to Emerald Village Pharmacy and everyone involved in bringing the project to life.

In this drill, our Captain and 1st Lieutenant were first to volunteer, placing their confidence in the crews protecting them as they moved through fire to isolate the gas supply on the training prop!

FLEET FRIDAY #3 — CLEMATIS TANKER 2

This week’s Fleet Friday is proof that capability doesn’t always come in a big package.

Clematis Tanker 2 is our Light Tanker — a smaller, lighter and highly manoeuvrable firefighting appliance designed for rural fire operations. Its compact size and 4WD capability make it particularly useful where access, terrain and tight spaces can make operating a larger tanker difficult.

SMALL. AGILE. CAPABLE.

At just 6.4 metres long and roughly half the operational weight of our heavy tanker, Tanker 2 brings a very different capability to the brigade.

Its smaller footprint, 4WD system and low-range gearing allow it to operate in areas where a larger appliance may have difficulty — including narrow tracks, confined properties and challenging rural terrain.

Despite its size, it still carries more than 1,200 litres of water, a dedicated firefighting pump, Class A foam capability and a crew protection system. It also has 2 x BA (Breathing Apparatus) sets on board. It was the first CFA light tanker that had this capability.

It can fight directly from its own tank, refill or operate from open water sources, and connect to hydrants when required.

That combination makes the Light Tanker a useful combination of mobility, water and firefighting capability.

When access gets tight, sometimes smaller is exactly what you need.

A huge thank you to Community Bank Dandenong Ranges!!

Clematis Fire Brigade is incredibly grateful to have received a $10,000 donation last night from the Community Bank Dandenong Ranges .

This generous contribution continues an outstanding level of support for our brigade, which has also included chainsaws, thermal imaging cameras and specialist equipment to help our volunteers operate safely and effectively.

As a volunteer brigade, support like this makes a genuine difference. It allows us to invest in the equipment and capability we need to better protect our community and support our members on the fireground.

What makes Community Bank particularly special is that its support extends well beyond Clematis, with significant investment in CFA brigades and community organisations throughout the Dandenong Ranges.

$10,000 is an extraordinary contribution, and we are extremely grateful for the trust and support shown in our brigade and our mission to serve the community.
