Exciting news for the Selby community 🏡

Works to repair and refresh the Selby Community House will begin this month, with services expected to gradually return to the building from spring.

After extensive termite damage was discovered last year, we’ve been working to remove the termites, assess the damage and prepare for the repairs.

The project will not only restore the building, but also deliver a range of improvements, including new flooring, upgraded heating and cooling, and a general refresh of the much-loved community space.

We know how important Selby Community House is to local residents. It's a place where people come together to learn, connect, access support and build community.

A big thank you to the Community House team and everyone who has shown patience and flexibility while services have operated from alternative locations.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to an improved Selby Community House later this year.

Danielle and Suzy hosted another wonderful Cuppa & Connection morning tea for the lovely Selby House Needlecraft Group at 'Friends on the Hill' Café in Monbulk.

They had a fantastic turnout, with 12 of them enjoying lively conversation over great coffee, cake, and snacks. The ladies from this wonderful group, come together on the first Wednesday of each month to catch up and work on whatever needlecraft projects they currently have on the go.

It was inspiring to see everyone's creations – there are some incredibly talented knitters, crocheters, and crafters in the community!

The Needlecraft Group has continued meeting at Monbulk Hub while Selby Community House remains closed for repairs. Today there was plenty of excitement around the table as everyone read the wonderful news on the front page of the local paper that Yarra Ranges Council has confirmed our much-loved Selby Community House will be repaired and refreshed.

While everyone is incredibly grateful that we've been able to keep the group going during this challenging time, there was one thing they all agreed on – they can't wait to return home to Selby!

A huge thank you to 'Friends on the Hill' for hosting, giving Selby House another opportunity for connection, friendship, and community.

Stay tuned - There will be another Cuppa & Connection at Selby General Store for our local community in Term 3 - Date TBC.

BIG NEWS FOR SELBY COMMUNITY HOUSE 💛

After álmost six incredibly challenging months, we are relieved and excited to finally share that Yarra Ranges Council has formally confirmed this week that Selby Community House WILL be repaired and restored.

The extensive termite damage discovered late last year was devastating and led to the immediate closure of our much loved building just before Christmas. Since then, our staff, childcare families, tutors, volunteers and wider community have shown extraordinary patience, resilience and support while we relocated services across multiple temporary venues.

We know the closure has had a huge impact on so many people, and we cannot thank our community enough for standing by us during this difficult time.

Council has now confirmed that works will include repairing the structural damage, as well as new flooring, upgraded heating and cooling, and a general refresh of the building. Most importantly — we have been reassured that Selby Community House has a future, and that we will be coming home. 💚

While there is still a lot of work ahead and many details to coordinate, this news brings enormous relief and hope for our staff, childcare families, tutors, volunteers and the broader community who love this special place as much as we do.

Selby Community House has been at the heart of this community for over 50 years, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone back through the doors again.

In the meantime:
🌿 Our Childcare Service will continue operating from Menzies Creek Primary School until the end of 2026, re-opening back at Selby Community House when we re-open 18th January 2027.
🌿 Our classes and workshops will continue across Monbulk Hub and Menzies Creek Hall until the end of 2026.
🌿 And we will continue keeping everyone updated as works progress

Thank you again to everyone who has supported us, checked in on us, attended programs at alternate venues, sent kind messages, volunteered, advocated for the House and helped keep our community spirit alive.

We truly could not have gotten through this without you.

The future of Selby Community House is looking bright again ✨

Thanks for your support Daniela De Martino MP always so lovely catching up with you!

It was wonderful to join Selby Community House at Monbulk Living and Learning Centre last Friday to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week.

Great to catch up with House Manager Danielle McMinn, and Engagement Coordinator Nikki Wellington, as well as Yarra Ranges Councillor Peter Mcilwain and Community Development Officer Janette Scott.

Even while their beautiful Selby Community House building remains closed for repairs, they did not want to miss out on this special week and it was a great reminder that community connection is more important than ever.

Selby Community House still has spaces available for Occasional Childcare at their warm and welcoming temporary home at Menzies Creek Primary School.

Local families needing flexible care are encouraged to get in touch.

We are so grateful that our wonderful Childcare service has found a warm and welcoming temporary home at Menzies Creek Primary School 💛While our beautiful Selby Community House building is closed awaiting repairs.

A huge thank you to Lisa and her incredible team for the care, creativity and positivity they continue to bring every single day. Moving into a new space is never easy, but they’ve transformed it into a calm, happy and engaging environment where our little ones can continue to learn, play and thrive.

From cosy activity corners to beautiful play spaces, the temporary setup is already feeling like home — and that’s entirely thanks to the dedication and heart of the team behind it.

We’re so proud of how our childcare community has adapted during this time, and so thankful to everyone who has supported the transition along the way.
