Its been a big week for our crews, with 9 firecalls since Thursday.

A range of different fires, including two large fires along the Bruce Highway that spanned several days, kept crews busy battling to get them under control, protect property, and keep the community safe.

Then comes the hours patrolling these incidents in the days after to ensure that they stay contained.

In the current conditions, fires that start are becoming difficult to contain quite quickly, posing extra challenges for our crews.

We've said it before and we'll say it again. Now is not the time for complacency. It is the time to be vigilant.

We urge everyone to have their Bushfire Survival Plan in place. We hope you'll never need to use it, but it'll will make you prepared should that time come.

STAY INFORMED - Isis Central (near Bundaberg) - fire as at 8:29pm Thursday, 1 October 2026

Warning level: ADVICE

Warning area: Between Adies Road, Trevors Road and Eureka Station Road

A fire is burning near the Bruce Highway, Isis Central.

Stay informed because the situation could change.

What you should do:

- Check for warning updates often and listen to your local radio station.
- Decide what you will do if the bushfire gets closer.
- If the smoke is thick where you are, stay inside and close windows and doors.
- If you need medication to help you breathe keep it close. Smoke can make it hard to breathe.
- Do not fly drones around the fire as they affect firefighting.
- If you are in danger, call Triple Zero (000) now.

Impacts:

- No properties are at risk now, but this could change.
- Some roads may be closed or impacted by smoke. It could be hard to see. You may need to drive a different way.

What firefighters are doing:

- Firefighters are working to control the fire.
- Backburning is being done to help control the fire.

It’s a sad day when we have to write this.

Our firefighters are volunteers. They are members of our community. They live here, work here, and volunteer their time because they genuinely want to help, protect and support the people around them.

What our firefighters WILL NOT tolerate is aggression, abuse or unacceptable behaviour towards them. It is something we will not stand for!

Our firefighters are human. They are people who have chosen to volunteer their time to keep our community safe. When someone calls 000, our firefighters respond to that call — voluntarily — often leaving their families, work and personal commitments behind to help others.

Conditions are currently deteriorating, and the High Risk Bushfire Period is shaping up to be a challenging one.

We are asking everyone in our community to please take conditions seriously and exercise extreme caution. Recent conditions have shown just how quickly a small fire can escalate into a significant and dangerous fire.

Please don’t be complacent. Follow the rules and conditions that are currently in place, and ensure you have a plan in place.

If you see a fire and you are concerned, call 000 immediately.

What a fitting way to end National Volunteers Week, with members of our Brigade attending an Awards Ceremony at Winfield RFB yesterday.

5 of our members received medals and/or Clasps to acknowledge their Diligent, Ethical, and long-standing service.

Curl, our longest serving firefighter, received 3rd Clasp for the Diligent and Ethical Service Medal, as well as 2nd Clasp for the National Medal.
Jeff, our First Officer, received the National Medal, and 1st Clasp to the Diligent and Ethical Service Medal.
Alison, our Treasurer and Support Member, received the 1st Clasp to the Diligent and Ethical Service Medal.
Renada, our Secretary and Firefighter, received the National Medal and Queensland Fire Medal.
Brad, our Chairperson and Third Officer, received the Queensland Fire Medal..

Congratulations to our members, and congratulations to all RFSQ members who received awards yesterday. Your dedication to your communities does not go un-noticed, and we appreciate you.

Childers crews, alongside many others, have been on the ground assisting Bundaberg residents as they began the clean-up after the Burnett River peaked at 7.4m on Wednesday morning.

The support from Rural Fire Service crews across the region was incredible. Crews from Avondale, Bingera Weir, Birthamba, Boolboonda, Branyan, Bungadoo, Buxton, Calavos, Childers, Goodwood, Gregory River, Moore Park, Mt Perry, South Kolan, Tirroan and Woodgate were joined by crews travelling from South Nanango, Cedar Pocket Greens Creek and River Heads–Kingfisher to lend a hand.

While it was heartbreaking to see the impacts of the flooding first-hand, crews didn’t hesitate to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into the clean-up.

Our thoughts are with all Bundaberg residents affected by the floods. Wishing everyone the very best as recovery efforts continue.
