Celebrating progress and new pathways 🎉

Greg, Ann, Gloria, and Dax enrolled in our Cairns Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, each looking to develop their confidence and strengthen their skills to open doors to new opportunities.

With the support of their STEPS trainers, they’ve now taken exciting new steps forward in their learning journeys, transitioning into the SEE Program’s BSB30120 Certificate III in Business and CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support courses.

Upskilling is about more than just gaining new qualifications. It builds self-confidence, encourages a growth mindset and opens doors to long-term career opportunities, and we are proud of the hard work that these participants have put into their learning 💙

Are you thinking about taking a new path towards your goals? The STEPS SEE Program can help you develop your skills and confidence for work, further study, or everyday life.

Toni’s secret ingredient: Perseverance 💪

When Toni first joined the STEPS Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program in Gordonvale, it took real courage. In the past, educational settings brought on intense anxiety for her, and her formal schooling had ended with Grade Six.

With consistent encouragement from the STEPS Gordonvale team and her growing perseverance, Toni slowly but steadily built the confidence to attend the full classes and found herself part of a supportive community.

During a conversation with Cairns Trainer Mirjam, Toni mentioned a job advertisement she had spotted for Piefection Bakery. Mirjam saw how enthusiastic Toni was about applying and worked with her to improve her resume. Toni also completed food safety training with STEPS to feel better prepared for the opportunity.

The hard work paid off – Toni got the job! 💙

When reflecting on her time with STEPS, Toni said, “You helped me, but I also needed to help myself. I really wanted to work, and now I have achieved that.”

Are you thinking about taking a new path towards your goals? The STEPS SEE Program can help you develop your skills and confidence for work, further study, or everyday life.

Mitch has made a lasting impact on our STEPS Mossman community 💙

Joining the STEPS Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program just a few months ago, Mitch has thrown himself into learning with enthusiasm and a collaborative attitude.

Known informally as the ‘class helper,’ Mitch helps new learners feel welcome and uses his experience as a kitchen hand to support his trainers and fellow participants with tasks in the kitchen. He even visited the class on his day off to cook a BBQ feast for a participant’s going-away party 🎉

Mitch is keen to find more fulfilling work in the hospitality industry and enjoys expanding his skills through the STEPS SEE Program.

Shout out to Mitch for being a total team player and a beloved part of our STEPS community!

🌟 STEPS Spotlight: Josh Guinea 🌟

This month’s STEPS Spotlight shines a light on Josh, an Individual Support Trainer in Townsville.

His career has spanned hospitality, sales, real estate, taxi driving and vocational training, but across all roles, Josh has always had a talent for connecting with others.

When he’s not training the next generation of aged care and disability support workers, you can find Josh volunteering with his local Lions Club, using his 3D printers at home, or raising three kids (all under the age of six!) 💙

The right opportunity can change everything 💙

What started as volunteering at our Cairns site evolved into something lifechanging. With encouragement from the STEPS team, Imogen applied for the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program and completed the BSB30120 Certificate III in Business.

Along the way, she published a children’s book, launched her own creative small business, and returned to STEPS as a volunteer tutor before securing a role as a STEPS Administrative Assistant.

Community can take you down pathways you never knew possible 🤝

Are you thinking about taking a new path towards your goals this year? The STEPS SEE Program can help you develop your skills and confidence for work, further study, or everyday life.

It’s never too late to change your story 📖

After years away from the classroom, Anna wasn’t sure how she’d cope with study again. English is her second language, as she grew up speaking Danish at home, and stepping back into formal education felt overwhelming.

But Anna was determined. Through the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support course in Townsville, she found her stride. She made friends, discovered strengths she didn’t know she had, and proved to herself that it’s never too late to start again.

Today, Anna is thriving in permanent part-time work at one of Townsville’s largest nursing homes and loving every minute.

Your story could be next. Whether you’re changing careers, returning to work after a long break, or just getting started, STEPS is here to support you every step of the way.
