Vale Roy and Nola Thompson
Today, we honour the extraordinary legacy of Roy and Nola Thompson, two of the Sunshine Coast’s most generous and quietly influential philanthropists.
For decades, their giving strengthened community organisations, lifesaving services, education, sport and support for people experiencing hardship. Their philanthropy was never about recognition. It was about making a difference and ensuring no one in our community was left behind.
In 2021, Roy and Nola entrusted more than $5 million to the Buderim Foundation, establishing the Thompson Charitable Fund. Preserved in perpetuity, the Fund continues to provide grants to frontline organisations supporting people experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, financial hardship and crisis across the Sunshine Coast.
More than $1.7 million has already been distributed through the Fund, supporting organisations including SunnyKids, Lily House, Gateway Care, Sonshine Sanctuary and Aus Living Support, alongside other frontline services providing housing, food security and emergency relief.
Their passing marks the end of an extraordinary chapter, but their legacy lives on through every person supported, every organisation strengthened and every life changed through their generosity.
The Buderim Foundation is deeply honoured to steward this legacy and continue Roy and Nola’s vision for a community where people are cared for, supported and given the opportunity to rebuild.
Their impact is profound. Their legacy is enduring. Their generosity will continue to change lives across the Sunshine Coast for generations to come.
