What an inspiring morning of connection, learning and community!

Buderim Foundation was honoured to welcome renowned ophthalmologist and outreach medicine pioneer, Dr Bill Glasson AO, as keynote speaker at our Foundation Breakfast.

Drawing on a remarkable career dedicated to improving access to eye health services for rural and remote communities, Indigenous Australians and the people of Timor-Leste, Dr Glasson shared powerful reflections on leadership, service and the philosophy that has guided his life's work: "take the services to the people."

Seventy-seven attendees joined us for the morning, including students from Matthew Flinders Anglican College, Sunshine Coast Grammar School and Immanuel Lutheran College. Dr Glasson's stories of growing up in the bush, becoming an optometrist and ophthalmologist, and the experiences that have shaped his journey captivated guests of all ages.

We are delighted by the wonderful feedback received and extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered and helped create such a memorable event. The beautiful table decorations added a special touch to the morning, while congratulations go to Sally Caddy, winner of the raffle, and Ron Caddy, winner of the lucky door prize.

Thank you, Dr Glasson, for sharing your wisdom, generosity and inspiring commitment to making a difference. Your message was a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have when service to others is at the heart of everything they do.

We’re Looking for a Board Director and Philanthropy Chair!

The Buderim Foundation is seeking a well‑connected, community‑minded leader to join our Board as Director and Chair of the Philanthropy Committee.

Since 2004, the Foundation has connected generosity with meaningful local impact, distributing more than $2.7m in grants to people and organisations supporting those most in need across the Sunshine Coast.

In this volunteer leadership role, you will help shape the Foundation’s strategic direction, strengthen governance, and champion our brand reputation and visibility.

As Philanthropy Chair, you will lead a motivated team to grow community giving, build relationships with donors, families, businesses and major philanthropists, and collaborate on targeted fundraising campaigns that ensure every donation stays local and creates lasting impact.

If you’re passionate about strengthening Sunshine Coast communities and helping build a legacy of generosity, we’d love to hear from you.

THE FOUNDATION TREE AT BUDERIM LIONS PARK

Did you know that, on 6 April 2004, Dame Quentin Bryce, AC, CVO, formally launched the Buderim Foundation and planted the 'Foundation Tree' in Main Street?

This commemorative tree was moved to the Lions Park in Burnett Street in 2015 and still stands today!

If haven't visited Buderim Lions Park and marvelled beneath the foliage of this beautiful decades-old tree, why not take a stroll there this week? Offering spectacular south-facing views of the Sunshine Coast and the hinterland, it is the perfect place to have a picnic, a play with the kids or a simple a break from the business of town. Benches offer a great spot to have morning tea or lunch while you watch the big ships go to and from the busy Port of Brisbane.

Like this post if you plan to visit the Foundation Tree this week.
