One of our distinguished volunteers Marie Hand was honoured tonight at the Sunshine Coast Coast Council Bushcare awards with the "Golden Mattock". This is awarded annually to the volunteer who goes 'Above and Beyond' in the Bushcare programme. Marie provides morning tea to our volunteers every Thursday morning and we all joke that it is the only reason that we turn up. Marie is not just a great cook. She is passionate about removing w**ds and being a retired nursing sister, is our resident first aid person. She also adds her organisational skills to planning the w**d removal programme into different parts of the Sanctuary depending on the seasons. Well done Marie

Wonderful support for Macadamia ternifolia from the Bushcare volunteers helping to look after the EJ Foote Sanctuary at Buderim. The subtropical rainforest at Buderim is habitat for Macadamia ternifolia, but they are few and far between now, so including them in habitat restoration projects really helps maintain their presence in the landscape. Thanks to the happy planters, and to Dan from SSCRC and Wild Macadamia Conservation member Andy for making it all happen!

The weather was perfect this morning for the 2025 Remembrance Day Commemoration at the Foote Sanctuary. Organised by the BWMCA the occasion was enhanced by students from Buderim Mountain State School who provided the musical accompaniment. Thanks to Foote Sanctuary volunteers and Buderim Muscle who set up the picnic area for the occasion.

The platform off the edge of the barbecue area was completed today by Foote Sanctuary volunteers. Thanks to Sunshine Coast Council for their assistance with materials and advice. Thanks also today to JC Hire at Sugar Road Maroochydore for the supply of the brick saw to cut pavers. A lot of pavers needed to be precisely cut, due to the irregular shape of the platform. Our highly skilled volunteers relished the challenge. Pictured are a retired builder and road engineer hard at work. The area will be compacted and cleaned next week, and landscaping works completed.
