The Board Meeting Surf Charity

The Board Meeting Surf Charity Over the last 20 years the charity has raised over $3,500,000 for charity, proving again that surfers have big hearts when it comes to helping the community.

The Board Meeting is a registered charity raising much-needs funds for Sunshine Coast families with disabled kids. 100% volunteer run meaning 100% of funds go where it's supposed to. Each year a dedicated group of volunteers organize and manage The Board Meeting Corporate Surf Event, Surf Memorabilia Auction and our Legends of Surf Lunches to raise much-needed funds for local disabled kids.

One of our early beneficiaries of The Board Meeting Surf Charity is Mitch Duncan and we are incredibly happy and proud of the achievements he has made. Mitch has made the U23 Australian Wheelchair Basketball Team and is competing at the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Bangkok, Thailand. The event is on until the 23rd November. Good luck Mitch and the Aussie team. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie :D

There is something about the first weekend in November that has always had a special place in our hearts for 22 years. Yesterday would have been the date for our Surf Event and having the best day ever raising funds for kids with disabilities and their families here on The Sunshine Coast. We all can be incredibly proud of what we have achieved over that time. The committees, supporters, benefactors, surf legends and everyone who has been involved through the Charity over the years. It is with so much pride that we can look back knowing what an incredible massive difference we all have made to these families that turned to us when they had nowhere else to go. I thought I would share a few photos of the surf events from over the years and thank you all for being such incredible supporters of this amazing charity as it comes to a close and with the hope of a new beginning

This is where our long lunch events started back in 2013. What a lineup, Joan Watt [MP's mum] Simon Anderson, Dick Hoole, Hayden Kenny, Bob Cooper [RIP] & Nev Hyman carefully guided by the master MC John Charlton. So many great stories.
We packed in 120 people into the Alex Surf Club and raised about $25,000. So much wonderful support for such a great cause.
Just such a great memory and so proud of our team for 10 more events. Almost a Sunshine Coast institution.

This week our Chairman, Mark presented a moving and very thankful toast to Mooloolaba Rotary at their presidential changeover.
Mark highlighted the wonderful work done by Rotary in our community and along with fellow committee member, Bev Skinner, thanked all present for the incredible support they had shown our charity over the last 6 years.

It is amazing how many families with disabled kids still need help and whilst we can assist we certainly will.
We recently committed $20,000 towards a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for 8-year-old Macie Honeysett.

Macie is a bright 8-year-old girl who lives with her family in the Glass House Mountains. Macie has a rare genetic disorder called Chromosome Ring 18 Deletion. For Macie, this presents with significant low muscle tone and joint hypermobility meaning she relies on her manual wheelchair for all mobility. Macie is peg-fed, non-verbal and has some level of intellectual impairment, however, she is a very social and engaged kid who is learning to use her communication device alongside sign language to engage with her friends and family.

Macie has been prescribed a power wheelchair however the family have not had sufficient funding to purchase a vehicle to transport it. A power chair will open Macie's world up allowing her to get outside including her backyard with her dog, chickens and pet peacock. She will also be able to go on walks with her family.

Macie’s family are doing amazing things in the local community to fundraise but it is so difficult to reach the $50,000 needed for a van that can be modified by the NDIS to take Macie in her chair.

They are holding a Trivia Night on June 21st at Mooloolah Valley Country Club and would love your support. If you want a great night out book online with the attached flier. Hopefully, we'll see you there.

So proud to contribute to this car for the family of little Sophia Rutledge. Sophia is 5 (turning 6 this year - apparently that's very important) and has (MPSIII) Sanfilippo Syndrome, and is restricted to a wheelchair.
Dad Zak, mum Allannah and brother Theodore were over the moon when The Board Meeting Surf Charity jumped in with a $20,000 donation to finalise the purchase. The family had done a lot of hard work and secured $30,000 from the Aussie Kids Charity and $10,000 from their local RSL.
The new Kia carnival will now go to get a full wheelchair fitout funded by the NDIS.
This will allow the family to take Sophia to appointments, therapy, school and social outings where she can be part of the community.
The family was incredibly grateful for our support and wanted to send thanks to all of those who supported the charity to make this possible.

Today our Chairman, Mark Skinner presented the Bourke family [Annalysse & Matthew] with their late model Kia Carnival which will soon be converted by NDIS for little Arden's wheelchair.
This project started with a GoFundMe page set up by Arden's Nanny, Kerri. We also had some big contributions by long-term supporter Ian Heffernan and the team at Alexandra Headland Rotary Club. Great effort from everyone involved including Ed at Pacific Kia who put the deal together.
Arden has Cerebral Palsy including Quadriplegic Spasticity & Diaplegia and has huge physical limitations. Arden also has Level 3 Autism and is non-verbal but he is happy and loves the new car. This will make trips to school and therapy so much easier.

It's been a super busy week with 6 applications approved.
The Hanrahan family sent in this little thank you video after we agreed to fund Isobel's speech & occupational therapy until her NDIS review kicks in. So beautiful.

"We would just like to thank you all for funding Isobel's therapy, we hope to have the support of the NDIS in the near future. Without your support, Isobel would unfortunately have had to have a break from therapy, which would have caused a large disruption and delay to her progress. Your support is immeasurable and far exceeds the financial support you have given Isobel. Here is a little video from Isobel to say thanks."
Warmest regards,
Isobel and the Hanrahan Family

It may not be new but it was perfect for this family. This single mum has 3 kids with high levels of autism and no family nearby, and was really struggling since her old car blew up.
The Kia will get them safely to therapy and school. She was so excited and super appreciative 😁
Special thanks to Ed at Pacific Kia Caloundra for a great deal too.

The Alexandra Headland Rotary Club have been great supporters of The Board Meeting Surf Charity over the years and this would be a great event to get involved in.

Without additional fundraising, our resources are depleting quickly but there are some requests that we just have to help and little Arden is one of those. The family desperately need a car that can be converted for wheelchair access.
They are committed to fundraising $25,000 through GoFundMe and if so, we should be able to match that dollar-for-dollar.

Rather than donating directly to us, like you did in the past, why not make a contribution to their GoFundMe and get them there quickly.

Hi, My name is Kerri and I am the 'Nanny' to two beautiful boy… Kerri Attenborough-Bourke needs your support for Help Arden and his family buy a suitable car
