It was the first parkrun of winter and after an ordinary week of rain and chilly conditions, we had 156 brave runners and walkers, and 17 valiant volunteers join us for BBG Event 259 in relatively benign conditions.

It was awesome to welcome 8 first timers to the parkrun family, with Callum, Emma, Kush, Nicole, Tarkin, Vada, Taryn and Alice getting their barcodes scanned for the first time, plus a few others there to celebrate a mate's birthday run (Happy Birthday, Bob). We hope that you all had a fabulous time with us and that this is the first of many.

We also had 12 tourists join us for the long weekend, with visitors from Albert Melbourne, Berwick Springs, Darebin, Lancefield, McLean Beach and far away Kenny Rez.

It was a great day for milestones, with the following terrific achievements:

* First Time Volunteer - Lucy
* 10 Volunteer Credits - Charli
* 50 Volunteer Credits - Katie
* 25 parkruns - Amy
* 50 parkruns - Nicole (with a pb, breaking 30 minutes for the first time)
* 350 parkruns - Local legend, Brett, which includes 140 at BBG

Despite the cold, it was also a great event for pb's, with 22 participants crossing the line with their fastest ever time at BBG. Well done all and I hope that you get to bask in the glory of your efforts for the rest of the long weekend.

As always, we couldn't do this without our awesome team of volunteers. A massive thanks to Peter, Lynley, Cathy, Bec, Lauren, Katie, Lucy, Justine, Charli, Dianne, Jas, Rhianna, Andrew, Tony, Cassandra and Julie. We appreciate your efforts in creating yet another fabulous event.

It may be cold, but the best way to stay warm is to keep on running, so we look forward to seeing you all again next week. Don't forget your barcode!

Today was a very historic day for parkrun, with Darren Wood becoming the first person ever to complete 1,000 parkruns. It's a fantastic achievement, with Darren starting his journey at the second event at Bushy parkrun in London in October 2004.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, we had 149 participants and 25 volunteers join us for BBG event number 258.

Whilst Darren may have completed his 1000th event, it was awesome to welcome Malaka, Bibi and Ayen to the parkrun family for their first event. We hope that you had a great time with us and come back another 999 times.

We also had 12 tourists this morning, with visitors from far and wide, including Castlemaine, Shepparton, Campaspe, Wallaby Track (Ballarat), Coburg, Studley, Jells, Gardiners Creek, Cairns and our neighbours at Kenny Rez.

With our fabulous team of pacers, we had 27 participants smash their pb's. The pb bell was ringing louder than a fire station with so many awesome efforts. Well done all and thanks to our pacers for getting so many people across the line.

We may not have had anyone get to 1000 parkruns this morning (only 557 to go, Rhianna), but we were still able to celebrate some brilliant achievements:

* 10 - Ezekiel
* 25 - Rob, Martineau and Jas
* 100 - Cameron
* First time volunteering - Eleanor and Stephanie

As always, we couldn't do this without our legendary crew of volunteers. A massive thanks to Cassandra, Lynley, Gregory, Ben, Kylie, Alison, Tim, Eleanor, Stephanie, Leanne, Wayne, Peter, Sharon, Tony, Justine, Andrew, Katie, Brad, Ben (the other one), Mandy, Angela, Kym, Julie and Darryn.

We look forward to seeing you all next week as we get one step closer to 1000 ourselves. Don't forget your barcode.
