The Bendigo Health Foundation, together with the Palliative Care Auxiliary, is proud to support two Bendigo Health nurses to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Palliative Care through funded scholarships.

The scholarships are helping nurses build their knowledge, develop new skills and bring new ideas back to the ward — helping strengthen care for patients and families.

For nurse Emily Coughlan, the course has also provided an opportunity to reflect on why she chose a career in palliative care.

“It gives you an opportunity to step back and remind yourself why you do the work you do.”

These scholarships are another way that the generosity of our community is helping create impact across Bendigo Health.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the Bendigo Health Foundation has funded the purchase of a radial EBUS probe, helping more patients access an important diagnostic lung procedure closer to home — without the need to travel to Melbourne.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in Australia, making earlier and more accurate diagnosis incredibly important.

The new, smaller probe is expected to:
🔹 Improve diagnostic accuracy by up to 45%
🔹 Reduce the number of patients needing referral to Melbourne
🔹 Help patients receive a diagnosis and begin treatment sooner

Anthony Yau, Clinical Unit Head of Respiratory Medicine, said “This new program and investigation model means we can diagnose patients at an early stage and initiate treatment earlier. The alternative was to refer the patient to Melbourne. Early diagnosis means better outcomes.”

This is another example of how community support can make a real difference to healthcare in our region. 💙

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for the Fluoro for Neuro Show & Shine! 🚗✨

It was fantastic to see so many bright, colourful and unique cars come together to form a giant brain, showing their support for people living with neurological disorders.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers, stallholders, community members and supporters who helped make the day such a success.

Money raised from the event will help fund a dedicated nurse to support patients living with neurological disorders, making a real difference to people and families in our community.

What an incredible show of community spirit at Saturday’s BFNL Bendigo Health Round, with South Bendigo FNC going Fluoro for Neuro to support people living with neurological disorders. 💙

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who got behind the day, more than $10,000 was raised to help fund a dedicated nurse supporting patients with neurological disorders — making a real difference to patients and their families.

A huge thank you to South Bendigo FNC and the Bendigo Football Netball League for creating such a fantastic event, and to everyone who got behind the cause and showed their support.
