Bega Valley Repair Cafe

Bega Valley Repair Cafe is a not-for-profit community initiative with the purpose of repairing items rather than see them go into landfill.

It also provide a social connection for people as they learn how to repair everyday items for themself. Bega Repair Cafe operates as a program of Bega Valley Shire Council utilising volunteer labour. We open every Friday, from 10am to 2pm

The Bega Valley Repair Cafe is back, and our volunteers are looking forward to helping you fix and give new life to your favourite items.

Please note: Due to some recent changes in our staffing resources, we may not be able to accept highly complex or technical repairs at this time. We are focusing on manageable, standard repairs to make sure we can help as many of our community members as possible. We truly appreciate your understanding and support as we adjust!

We're overloaded!

Our latest volunteer, David (yes, that makes 3 of us now), put quite some hours into giving new life to this old lamp. We have a few new faces volunteering for us now, so feel free to drop in and say 'hello' and watch what we get up to.

Unfortunately we've had a recent succession of 'grumpy' customers. So it's timely to remind the community that we are all volunteers, giving up our own time, to provide this service. We are not a commercial operation, and it will often take time for your item to be repaired, as we only operate on Fridays. Increasingly, we are been asked to take on 'Mission Impossible' repairs, and when we don't succeed, some people get annoyed. Again, a reminder, we do our best, you've often brought your broken item to us because no one else will deal with it, and if we break it or can't repair it, that is part of our agreement with you - we do our best but sometimes we can't perform miracles.

The Trainee succeeds again! He recapped this vintage Proton receiver and fixed a fault it had in one of its output channels. However the tuner wasn't working, and it was obvious a previous professional technician had tried and given up. The fault turned out to be a crystal with its legs eaten away by the notorious brown glue. Replaced that and working again better than new.

As 2025 comes to a conclusion, the Bega Repair Cafe team is taking a summer break. We start back on Friday 30 January 2026, ready to have a go at fixing all your broken and busted stuff.

Oh, and what did we achieve in 2025? 382 items came in for repair, and 355 went back in full working order to their owners. Not too bad for a bunch of volunteers working on a Friday for a few hours, hey?

Our apprentice technician is coming along in leaps and bounds!

This magnificent Marantz 2215B has been fully restored and serviced by Tim, to a condition better than brand new. Believe it or not, in this restored condition it is worth ~ $2,500.
