Calling stallholders, makers and creators! We’re looking for handmade, recycled, innovative and interactive stalls to help bring the 2026 OBH Spring Fair to life on Sunday 25 October. If you have something interesting to make, show, share or sell, we’d love to hear from you. Most people see retirement as the dream.

No alarm clock. No boss. No work.

But for a lot of Aussie men who spent 40 or 50 years as tradies, mechanics, farmers and workers, retirement came with a weird problem nobody really talked about.

Suddenly nobody needed them.

That’s where Men’s Sheds came in.

Across Australia, retired blokes started gathering in community workshops to do what they’d always done: build things, fix things and give someone a hand.

They repair bikes for kids, restore furniture, make toys, build community projects and help charities. But somewhere between the sawdust, cups of tea and arguing about the correct way to sharpen a drill bit, something else happened.

The blokes started looking after each other too.

Because a lot of men aren’t great at sitting in a circle saying “let’s talk about our feelings”.

But give them a broken chair, a workbench and another bloke standing next to them, and suddenly they’ll tell you everything.

Men’s Sheds basically discovered something very Australian:

Sometimes the easiest way to ask someone if they’re okay is:

“Can you give us a hand with this?”

Focused Blokes: A Simple Idea Making a Life-Changing Difference

At the recent 11th National Shed Gathering in Brisbane, sheds from across Australia came together to celebrate connection, community, and impact. Among the highlights was the Healthy Shed, Healthy Blokes Award, presented to the Belconnen Community Men’s Shed (ACT) for their initiative, Focused Blokes.

While President Gordon Cooper was quick to credit the entire shed —“it took a whole shed to do it”—the story behind Focused Blokes offers valuable insights for every wellbeing and health officer.

A timber slab from rough sawn, to finely sanded, to oiling. A few more coats then the legs will be fitted and we have a beautiful coffee table. The Bega Men's Shed has a number of similar sized timber slabs available for sale. See the last photo.

Members of Bega Men's Shed discuss how to get the best value from these rough sawn hardwood slabs that have been seasoning for three years. In coming months you may see some of them turned into beautifully dressed side or coffee tables.

Finishing touches being applied to a leadlight window that will be installed by the member at his home.
This was the member's first attempt at leadlighting. He was guided by another member who was happy to spend time passing on his knowledge. The result was a great success.

This local event is for all Dads and those who are interested in what it means to be as Dad.

Conversations in the Cave (with Dave) at Festival of the Dad! This is an opportunity for people of all ages to explore the theme of “fathering” in an engaging and fun way. Through small group conversations and storytelling, we will explore important questions like:
What does great fathering look like to you?
What are the biggest challenges facing fathers today?
What do fathers need now to be their best?
Through sharing our different perspectives, experiences and insights, we can all learn something new about what it is to be a father, in all it’s different shapes and sizes - and we can share these learnings with others. Whether you are a dad or soon to be one, someone who plays a fathering role for children, a partner, a young person or someone interested in the conversation - your perspective and wisdom is welcome and needed. Come along and join one of the conversations at either 12:30pm or 3pm at the Festival of the Dad.
