🇪🇹💛 From Ethiopia to Australia, sharing stories of hope and lasting change! 🇦🇺

It has been a joy to welcome Kebede Woldegiorgis, Director of Bole Bible Baptist Church (BBBC), our local partner in Ethiopia, to Australia! 🙌

During his visit, Kebede shared stories of how BBBC is working alongside communities across Central Ethiopia to create opportunities for a brighter future.

🏛️ At Parliament House, he helped shine a light on the importance of practical sanitation solutions.

🎓 At Trinity Grammar and Scotch College, he shared stories of impact and inspired young Australians to learn more about life in Ethiopia and the difference locally led development can make.

⛪ Through church visits and gatherings, new and long-standing supporters had the opportunity to hear first-hand about BBBC’s work, learn more about Ethiopia and discover why local leadership is so important in creating lasting change.

🌍 Did you know BBBC reaches more than 61,000 people every year across Central Ethiopia? Through its work in education, health, sanitation and community development, BBBC is helping families and communities build better futures.

🪙💛 Small coins, big hearts!

What a beautiful example of kindness in action!

The wonderful community at St Scholastica’s Primary School came together to support Magadhi, a six-year-old girl in Sri Lanka sponsored through INA’s ChildLink program. 🇱🇰

Earlier this year, the school’s Student Leaders chose Magadhi as the child they wanted to support. They then came up with a creative idea: a Coin Line fundraiser!

Students, families and staff brought in coins, carefully placing them together to see how long a line they could make. Together, they raised $340.20 towards Magadhi’s sponsorship! 🎉

But the impact goes beyond the money raised. ❤️ This thoughtful initiative helped students learn about generosity, compassion and the importance of caring for others around the world.

A heartfelt thank you to the School Captains and Leaders, and the entire St Scholastica’s (St Scholastica's Primary School) community for showing such genuine care. Your initiative reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.

🌍💙 Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

There is encouraging news when we look at how far the world has come. 🙌

In 1990, around 43% of the world’s population lived in extreme poverty. Today, that figure is around 10%. That is incredible progress. 🌏✨

But the work is far from finished.

The World Bank estimates that more than 824 million people were still living in extreme poverty in 2024. That means living on less than US$3 per person, per day.

At International Needs Australia, we believe every person is created with God-given dignity and deserves the opportunity to live free from poverty and reach their God-given potential. 🙏💙

That’s why INA works alongside local partners in communities experiencing poverty. Together, we support practical initiatives such as:

🧵 Vocational training and new skills

🌱 Better farming practices

💰 Financial literacy

🤝 Livelihood opportunities

These skills can help people strengthen their livelihoods, support their families and build a more secure future. 🌱🏡

🇦🇺🌏 Locally led development takes centre stage in Canberra!

What happens when Australian aid agencies come together at Parliament House? An opportunity to share stories, raise awareness and show why international development matters!

Our CEO, Dr Andrew Catford, International Programs Manager Davide De Micheli, and our visiting partner Director of Bole Bible Baptist Church (BBBC) Kebede Wolde-Giorgis represented INA at ACFID’s showcase of Australia’s international development and humanitarian work.

🚽 One of the highlights at our stand was a homemade pit latrine showcasing how sustainable sanitation solutions can support lasting change in Ethiopia!

But this is about so much more than building toilets. 💙

✨ Families contribute according to their capacity, helping build ownership of the solution.

🛠️ Local communities are trained to build and maintain the latrines, creating skills, opportunities, local ownership and sustainability.

🌱 Communities learn lasting hygiene and sanitation practices that help protect everyone's health.

This is locally led development in action. When communities have the skills, resources and ownership to lead change, the benefits can continue for years to come.

We were delighted that Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Penny Wong (Penny Wong - Senator for SA ), Minister of International Development Dr Anne Aly (Anne Aly ), Ambassador for Gender Equity Michelle O’Byrne (Michelle O'Byrne), Ambassador for Global Health Chris Cannan, as well as several Members of Parliament who visited the INA stand to hear more about this work and the importance of locally led development.

🇳🇵Five weeks on, families in Nepal are still facing the devastating effects of the floods. 💔

More than 1,455 people have lost their lives, and at least 5,285 people remain missing following the devastating flash floods that swept through Nepal’s Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river regions.

Thousands of families have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods and the things they depended on every day.

But thanks to your compassion and generosity, help is reaching those who need it. ❤️

Our partner, Human Development and Community Services (HDCS), has provided emergency assistance to more than 1,200 vulnerable people, including:

Now, the urgent emergency response is beginning to transition into a much longer journey of recovery.

HDCS has developed a three-year recovery plan to help communities rebuild safer, stronger and more sustainable futures.
