Ballina Jet Boat Rescue

The Ballina Jetboat was established in 1971 and was previously operated under surf lifesaving. 2023 marks 52 years of operations and serving the Ballina community. It is a proud achievement for all involved and with our recent transition to Marine Rescue NSW it is an opportunity to reset and restart our service with a blank canvas. Our current boat was custom built for the conditions in and around

Ballina and in particular, the notorious Ballina Bar where the Richmond River meets the sea. It is now part of a fleet of three specialist rescue vessels operating out of Ballina with Marine Rescue NSW. Our facility is located at Regatta Avenue directly behind the Police Station in Ballina. This location allows for easy launching of the Jetboat in any conditions, day or night. Our service is very unique in that we are one of a small number of units operating a Jet Rescue Boat in Australia. The operating capabilities of this type of propulsion allows us to operate in shallow water and manoeuvre in and around a surf break and rocks. The boat allows us to take multiple crew members to an incident but more importantly it allows us to bring multiple people back to shore safely. Our group of dedicated volunteers provides coastal patrols in the Northern Rivers area of NSW as well as a 24/7 365 day call out service to respond to marine incidents.
