Glaucoma Australia

Glaucoma Australia We are a registered charity providing sight saving education & support for people with glaucoma.

We help people with glaucoma get detected early and adhere to their treatment management plan so they can prevent irreversible sight loss and maintain their quality of life with confidence in their eye health. If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with glaucoma you might be feeling overwhelmed and concerned for the future but remember you’re not alone. While there is no cure, glaucoma

can be managed and we're here to support you every step of the way. We do this by providing FREE education and support via our website, social media, email, brochures, videos and one-to-one phone support. Do you have a family history of glaucoma?

Researchers at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute are recruiting Australians to take part in a clinical trial exploring how genetic testing could help detect glaucoma earlier.

Glaucoma can run in families, but family history alone doesn’t always accurately predict who will develop the disease. This study is helping researchers better understand genetic risk, with the aim of identifying people earlier and protecting sight for longer.

We’re looking for Australians who:
• Are aged 50-70
• Do not have glaucoma
• Have a parent or full sibling with glaucoma

What’s involved:
• Routine eye examinations
• A simple saliva sample

If you or someone you know is eligible, you can register your interest here:

National Orthoptics Awareness Week | 1-5 June

This week, we recognise and celebrate the orthoptists who play a vital role in protecting and preserving vision for Australians of all ages.

This year’s theme, “Because I am an Orthoptist”, highlights the skill, dedication, and clinical expertise of these essential eye health professionals.

At Glaucoma Australia, our orthoptist educators are at the heart of our SiGHTWiSE program, providing trusted, evidence-based support to people living with glaucoma across the country. They guide patients through diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care with clarity, compassion, and clinical expertise.

Good vision is central to independence, wellbeing, and quality of life. Orthoptists play a key role in helping people understand and manage their eye health, working alongside ophthalmologists and the broader eye care team.

We acknowledge and thank all orthoptists across Australia - and especially our dedicated orthoptist educators at GA - for the difference they make every day in improving patient outcomes and supporting people through their glaucoma journey.
