STICK Mob Studio wants to bring young Indigenous writers and illustrators together with established creatives to develop skills and showcase work grounded in Country and language.

Through a First Nations youth-led storytelling festival for young people aged 12 to 26, the initiative hopes to build confidence and create more creative opportunities for young people in Alice Springs.

Through the Mparntwe Alice Springs Community Foundation give2give initiative, Stick Mob received $5,000 in funding to help bring the concept to life.

The festival is expected to feature multiple workshops running simultaneously, including comic book workshops, art sessions and story- telling activities.

Stick Mob co-director Declan Miller said the give2give initiative had played an important role in helping artists and community groups turn ideas into reality.

โ€œHaving that breathing room to put key things in place for hosting something like this is so great for us here in Alice Springs,โ€ he said.

โ€œThis is a great opportunity for the Mparntwe Alice Springs Community Foundation to work with us to help make this happen...โ€

Big thanks to everyone who joined us last Friday for our 'Trust and Community Building' leadership session, and to Tamรกs Scsaurszki for sharing his insights and inspiring our community conversation! ๐Ÿ™

Tamรกs spoke about his experiences starting the first community foundation in Hungary โ€” starting small, going for early wins, and bringing together diverse groups. His story sparked rich discussion across our tables about what it really takes to build trust, move people from frustration to contribution, and make community effort stick over time.

Some of the wisdom that emerged from the room:

โœจ Trust is built through actions matching words โ€” honesty, authenticity, and following through
โœจ People move from frustration to contribution when they feel genuinely seen, invited in, and shown practical examples of what's possible
โœจ Community effort sticks when there is broad representation, real accountability, and support built around local leaders and risk-takers โ€” especially youth
โœจ Courage matters โ€” somebody has to start

Thanks to everyone who attended โ€” the depth of reflection in that room reminded us all why we love living in Mparntwe Alice Springs ๐Ÿ’›

And if you've got an idea for ways to strengthen our community and wondering how to get involved, come along to one of our next events!

Coming up TONIGHT at 5pm!

The Mparntwe Alice Springs Community Foundation is pleased to host Tamรกs Scsaurszki, a senior figure in the Hungarian and broader European community foundation movement, who will be visiting Alice Springs as part of a co-learning exchange around community and trust-building, civic participation and shared futures.

Tamรกs has spent decades helping build community foundations and community-led action in post-communist Hungary and across Europe โ€” places where trust in institutions and collective action can often be fragile. His work focuses on what helps communities organise, build trust, strengthen participation and sustain local effort over time.

This practical and grounded community conversation will explore questions like:

* What helps communities build trust?
* What moves people from frustration to contribution?
* What makes local leadership and community effort actually stick over time?
* How do communities respond constructively when things are hard?
* So whatโ€ฆ for us?

The conversation sits within the wider (โ€œGetting Good Stuff Doneโ€) work of the Foundation, which focuses on encouraging, supporting and amplifying people who are actively contributing to a stronger community and shared future for Alice Springs.

If you care about this town, are interested in how communities work, why doing leadership matters, or want to think constructively about a stronger community and shared future for Alice Springs, you are warmly invited.
