Waltja CEO Amanda Clarke leading discussions for feedback about Waltja’s programs
from our Executive Directors.

Waltja Executive directors meet at least twice a year to review the direction of the organisation and the needs of the Communities we serve. We have previously been the recipient of a Reconciliation Australia Governance Award.

Every Waltja project starts with the same question:
“What does this community need right now?”

🖤❤️💛 **What is Waltja?**

Waltja is an Aboriginal Corporation, owned and run by the women of remote Central Australian communities.

Each Director represents her community and brings local knowledge and leadership to Waltja’s Board. Together with staff based in Alice Springs, they help guide the organisation’s direction.

💬
“Waltja learns what is happening in the community from the Directors… We work together — Anangu/Yapa and Kardiya, workers and Directors and community. That’s why we called the organisation Waltja – family.”

**Waltja works in:**
🧸 Children & Families
🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑🏾 Youth Services
🎨 Art, Language & Culture
💰 Community & Money Skills
🧓🏾 Caring for our Elders
🎓 Training & Employment

Waltja supports people through the Remote Community Connector role.

A Community Connector is a local person who knows the community, understands people, and helps connect families with Waltja and other services. They work alongside community members and other support people to help families in their own community.

This work is for people living in community, and it is paid work.

Waltja CEO, Amanda Clarke, attended the Good Shepherd Financial Wellbeing Hub in Melbourne on 18–19 March.

Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand

It was a valuable experience for Waltja as we continue moving forward with NILS loans. The event provided a great opportunity to connect with organisations from around Australia that are supporting First Nations families and communities with money issues and financial wellbeing.

"Gambling is big in the community and it is sad. Money is being wasted on cards, gambling, and other things, and also on drinking, while kids are left out in communities and in town. Gambling is wrong. Culture is missing out because of all the bad things happening. Mums and dads are not showing the right way, and culture and law are being pushed aside."
