Ngaanyatjarra Council Group Proudly representing Yarnangu and their needs and aspirations across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

The Ngaanyatjarra Council (Aboriginal Corporation) is an organisation representing the interests of around 2000 Ngaanyatjarra, Pintupi and Pitjantjatjara people living in eleven major communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Member communities of the Council are:

• Kiwirrkurra Council (Aboriginal Corporation)
• Mantam

• Papulankutja Community Incorporated (Blackstone Range Community)

• Tjukurla Community Incorporated (Aboriginal Corporation)
• Wanarn Community ( Aboriginal Corporation)
• Warakurna Community Incorporated (Aboriginal Corporation)
• Warburton Community Incorporated
• Pira-Kata (Kanpa) Community Incorporated

Ngaanyatjarra Council which was incorporated in March 1981 is the principal organisation in the Ngaanyatjarra corporate structure, which includes the following entities:

• Ngaanyatjarra Services (Aboriginal Corporation)
• Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (Aboriginal Corporation)
• Indervon Pty Ltd (IOR)
• NATS (Ngaanyatjarra Agency & Transport Service)


The Ngaanyatjarra Council’s administrative office is located at 58 Head Street, Alice Springs. Alice Springs is the head office for Ngaanyatjarra Services (Aboriginal Corporation), and Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (Aboriginal Corporation), while the Ngaanyatjarra Land and Culture Unit also has an office in the same complex.

As part of the Ngaanyatjarra Health team, Ernest works alongside Yarnangu to help them access the disability services and support available to them. His role is about more than navigating systems. It's about walking alongside people as they build confidence and take positive steps in managing their health and wellbeing.

What Ernest values most is the trust and encouragement he receives from the community. Being able to support people while learning from Yarnangu along the way is what makes working on the Lands so rewarding.

Creating safer communities requires strong partnerships, shared learning and listening to the voices of Yarnangu.

Recently, Ngaanyatjarra Health welcomed the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA) to the Lands to facilitate a workshop focused on strengthening our response to family, domestic and sexual violence. Alongside the workshop, a community bush trip provided an opportunity to come together, listen and yarn about the needs and priorities of the community.

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service continues to support strong immunisation programs across the Lands, helping protect Yarnangu families and communities.

Meningococcal disease is rare but can become very serious, very quickly. Vaccination is the best protection, particularly for young people.

As Ricallum says, staying healthy is about more than just sport. It's about protecting yourself and your community.

Meningococcal vaccination is free through Ngaanyatjarra Health clinics.

Based in Warburton, Wainui is a Community Healthcare Nurse with Ngaanyatjarra Health's Aged Care and Disability Services, travelling across the Lands to support Elders and community members where they live.

Like many people arriving in remote Australia, Wainui initially experienced a little culture shock. But over time, that uncertainty gave way to something far more rewarding. As relationships have grown and trust has developed, so too has her love for the work. Today, it's the privilege of walking alongside Yarnangu and being welcomed into their lives that makes every journey worthwhile.

Footies were flying, skills were growing and there were plenty of smiles as the West Coast Eagles Community Team travelled the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, visiting Jameson, Blackstone and Wingellina.

Across the three communities, young people had the chance to learn new skills, enjoy giveaways, meet the Eagles coaches and simply have fun together on the oval. From big marks to team photos and everything in between, it was a fantastic few days of football and connection.

A big thank you to the West Coast Eagles Community Team, BHP and everyone in each community who helped make the visits such a success.

The sealing of the Outback Way represents one of the most significant changes the Ngaanyatjarra Lands have seen in generations.

Alongside opportunities for employment, safer travel and economic development, the project also brings important questions about culture, community, visitor management and long-term social impacts.

The recently completed Social Impact Assessment brings together the voices of Yarnangu, service providers and community members to help ensure future planning is informed by local priorities and lived experience. It will help shape the roadmap for maximising opportunities while addressing the challenges that come with this nationally significant project.

𝗜 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 | 𝗡𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲

For Nellie, Irrunytju (Wingellina) has been home since she married and moved to the community many years ago. It's where she has worked, raised her family, and watched new generations grow up surrounded by the people and Country they belong to.

Nellie can't imagine living anywhere else. Her hope is simple: to remain in Wingellina for the rest of her life, surrounded by family, community and the place she proudly calls home.
