8CCC Community Radio 102.1fm - Alice Springs & Tennant Creek

8CCC Community Radio 102.1fm - Alice Springs & Tennant Creek Formed in 1980, 102.1FM 8CCC is an outback radio station with a proud history of unique programming & regular Centralian/Barkly-inspired music.

8CCC grew out of grassroots enthusiasm
amongst the people of Alice Springs and
surrounds for their own community radio station. After a series of public meetings in 1979-1980,
8CCC hit the airwaves with a “c” class licence in
1981, transmitting on 102.1FM from the grounds
of Anzac Hill High School. 8CCC was one of the
earliest established community radio stations in
the NT. A little later, a group

of local Aboriginal people
“expressed the need for a body to fight for
Aboriginal participation in the media”. They
formed the Central Australian Aboriginal Media
Association (CAAMA) and then applied for a
broadcast licence. 8CCC supported CAAMA
by providing access time of 4 hours per day on
weekdays to start broadcasting programs until
they secured their own licence.
8CCC later moved to Centralian College campus,
with Centralian College holding the broadcast
licence on behalf of the station, and worked in
partnership with the college for the next 19 years.
8CCC’s service extended to Tennant Creek
in 1990, and a small production studio was
established at the Tennant Creek Training Centre. Tennant Creek volunteers began producing
programs and sending them down to Alice
Springs on tape and later on CD, to be broadcast
on air to Alice Springs and Tennant Creek
listeners. One of the programs that started in
Tennant Creek at that time, Get Out Those Old
Records presented by Rufl, still goes to air each Sunday.
8CCC is community driven radio and is available streaming and on demand at 8ccc.com.au

On Journey Through Anime with Ben Russell. Ben analyses the acclaimed series "The Owl House". This series has received widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike, with praise for its animation, humor, characters, voice acting, themes, emotional weight, and emphasizing LGBTQ representation more than other Disney media, including becoming the first Disney property to feature a same-sex couple in leading roles, a same-sex kiss involving lead characters, same-sex parents, and non-binary characters.

On Arvos with Andy we had now Western Australian country music artist Darren Gillis returns with his latest single, “Hell of a Time,” a gritty country rock anthem that dives headfirst into the kind of night where troubles are drowned in music, whiskey, and good company.

In January 2026, Darren’s rising profile was further cemented at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, where he was awarded Best Independent Country Male Artist at the Independent Country Music Association Awards.

On Arvos with Andy we had North Queensland artist, Sammy White. Sammy returned to her roots with a stripped back vintage country sound on her brand-new release, “Good Old Case of Bad Luck”.

The song’s narrative leans into small-town life, good karma and the idea that ‘being a good neighbour always comes back around’.

Throwing back to the early sounds of Kacey Musgraves, The Chicks and more locally, Gina Jeffreys and Melinda Schneider, the song was co-written by Sammy and Nashville based, Aussie hitmaker, Phil Barton, and produced by ARIA winner, Matt Fell.

On Arvos with Andy, we welcomed Dan the Underdog, who joined us to discuss Eskatology and their latest EP collaboration with D-Day and Jarrod Parkinson (JP). The project showcases a diverse blend of hip hop influences, reflecting the artists’ journeys through music, family life, local and global politics, and personal experiences. Drawing heavily on classic boom bap traditions, the tracks range from energetic, uplifting anthems to thought-provoking and introspective pieces. Dan shared insights into the creative process behind the release, the messages woven throughout the music, and the importance of authentic storytelling within the hip hop community. The collaboration culminated in the launch of Dan the Underdog x Eskatology – Built on Grind, backed by Legacy, at The Gap View Hotel on 27th June, bringing together artists, supporters, and fans to celebrate the release.
