Formed in 1980, 102.1FM 8CCC is an outback radio station with a proud history of unique programming & regular Centralian/Barkly-inspired music.

8CCC grew out of grassroots enthusiasm
amongst the people of Alice Springs and
surrounds for their own community radio station. After a series of public meetings in 1979-1980,
8CCC hit the airwaves with a “c” class licence in
1981, transmitting on 102.1FM from the grounds
of Anzac Hill High School. 8CCC was one of the
earliest established community radio stations in
the NT. A little later, a group of local Aboriginal people
“expressed the need for a body to fight for
Aboriginal participation in the media”. They
formed the Central Australian Aboriginal Media
Association (CAAMA) and then applied for a
broadcast licence. 8CCC supported CAAMA
by providing access time of 4 hours per day on
weekdays to start broadcasting programs until
they secured their own licence.
8CCC later moved to Centralian College campus,
with Centralian College holding the broadcast
licence on behalf of the station, and worked in
partnership with the college for the next 19 years.
8CCC’s service extended to Tennant Creek
in 1990, and a small production studio was
established at the Tennant Creek Training Centre. Tennant Creek volunteers began producing
programs and sending them down to Alice
Springs on tape and later on CD, to be broadcast
on air to Alice Springs and Tennant Creek
listeners. One of the programs that started in
Tennant Creek at that time, Get Out Those Old
Records presented by Rufl, still goes to air each Sunday.

On Arvos with Andy we have Queensland country artist Naya Smith. Naya is set to make her debut with “Whiskey Blues”. This single has a catchy country-rock edge and honest storytelling, “Whiskey Blues” introduces a fresh new voice with plenty of attitude and personality.

Produced by Stuart Stuart, “Whiskey Blues” is a country track about drinking to forget the things you’d rather not face. Written by Naya while working as a governess on a remote property, the song grew from a tough day into a relatable anthem for bad days, broken hearts and pretending everything’s fine when it isn’t.

On Arvos with Andy, we had Piper Butcher with "Never Know You Again". Off the back of her stellar BIGSOUND showcase performances and being announced for CMC Rocks QLD 2027 and Meatstock 2027.

Piper Butcher is delivering the fourth single from her forthcoming EP. “NEVER KNOW YOU AGAIN” This single was co-written with Alex Laska from the band Kingswood. With plenty of momentum behind her, Piper is continuing to make her mark as one of the exciting emerging voices in Australian country music.

On Arvos with Andy, we had Jason Lord who has been nominated for 2027 NT Australian of the Year. Jason is an Arrernte man, a respected mentor and boxing coach of Alice Springs, who has transformed his own life to help change the future of at-risk young people. Once a troubled teenager, he found balance, discipline and hope through boxing. Jason now leads the Arrernte Community Boxing Academy, a safe space for Indigenous youth in Central Australia.

Lisa presented on a Community Broadcasting Foundation grants panel and Benjamin presented alongside RPPFM Station Manager Chris Mofardin on financial management- 'Keeping Your Station in the Black'. Everyone jumped on the mic to ask questions - And Jasper was recognised for Outstanding Youth Contribution at the 2026 CBAA Awards.

The team were proud to represent 8CCC while connecting with the broader sector and bringing back knowledge and insights to inform our practice in the Northern Territory.

On this week’s Royston Thompson Sporting Roundup, we were delighted to welcome Central Australian NT Cricket Coordinator Kesh Keerthi, who shared his excitement about the growing interest and participation in junior cricket throughout the region. Kesh highlighted a fantastic range of fun, engaging activities such as Cricket Blast Program and opportunities being introduced to encourage more young people to get involved, develop their skills and enjoy everything the game has to offer.

Also joining the program was Darwin-based NT Cricket Competitions Coordinator Muhammad Abdullah Sohail, who was in Alice Springs to lend his support to the thriving junior cricket community. Muhammad spoke about the importance of nurturing young talent and supporting junior players across all levels of the competitions, ensuring they have every opportunity to participate, develop and progress in the sport.

It was great to hear about the enthusiasm, commitment and positive momentum behind junior cricket in Central Australia and across the Northern Territory, with plenty happening to keep our young cricketers active, involved and enjoying the game. A bright future certainly lies ahead for junior cricket!
