Alan Young's letter to the Advertiser and SAVE WEST BEACH SAND have nailed it. Have a read.

Alan Young’s letter to the editor is another classic.

🏖️ Invite the AFL clubs to train on our imported quarry sand, -no pesky shell grit, no cut toes, just premium government-funded beach décor.

🌊 Recovery sessions are easy too, with deep water only metres from the shoreline. Why waste time walking?

✈️ Close to the airport, close to Adelaide Oval, and close to the consequences of decades of coastal disruption.

Perhaps make it a complete experience:
Bring Peter, bring the policy makers, bring the coastal managers.

Nothing says “world-class beach” quite like spending millions importing quarry sand while the original beach keeps disappearing.

Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith sets out why there is a need for transparency and community consultation on the proposed GP Motor circuit.

This morning I spoke to ABC Radio about the proposed MotoGP circuit and the questions many people are asking about its impact on Adelaide's Park Lands.

My position remains the same: before any final judgement is made, the community deserves to see the full proposal and understand its implications.

Based on preliminary analysis undertaken by our staff, there could be impacts on a significant number of trees within Victoria Park and along surrounding roads, with the toll anywhere from 80 to upwards from 200.

There are also questions about the construction of a large pit building, changes to road infrastructure and the potential disruption associated with road closures and reconstruction works.

Importantly, the final design has not yet been publicly released, which is why I continue to call for greater transparency and community consultation.

This is not simply a debate about trees but about the future use of the Adelaide Park Lands, public access to these spaces, the impact on surrounding roads to people moving in and out of the city, and whether the benefits of the proposal outweigh the costs.

As I said this morning, the key question is: is the pain worth the gain?

Adelaide's Park Lands are one of our city's most treasured assets and the community deserves the opportunity to understand the full picture before decisions are made that could permanently change them.

Sadly, it seems to be a case of out of sight out of mind. Keep dumping quarry sand seems to be the Government's solution, despite the fact that it is causing serious environmental harm.

50,000 Adelaide people who care about the environment have now signed the online Petition expressing their anger and opposition to 585 trees being cut down in Possum Park and the fact that there is still more to be chopped. You can still sign this petition and also sign a physical petition the details of which are on the Adelaide Park Lands Association site.

Over 50,000 people have now signed the online petition! An amazing show of support for our Park Lands. Remember you can sign BOTH the online one and the newer physical parliamentary petition.

A visual display of where canopy and green space have been lost on the Adelaide Parklands.

No where in the world would Governments attack their most prized iconic parklands. Can you imagine Hyde Park in London being chopped up for a motor sport race or to be built on, or New York City carving up Central Park. It would be unthinkable. The Adelaide Parklands are part of our history, they are a gift to the people from the early settlers and part of Colonel Light's vision, they provide habitat for our wildlife and recreational space for our people. They are what makes us unique in the world. There are other places for motor sport. It is not appropriate in heart of our parklands and conservation areas.
