Once again, the Malinauskas Government is pouring millions into roads while our public transport system is left behind.

Today’s State Budget is another missed opportunity to invest in a network that gives people real choice in how we get around.

South Australians deserve frequent, reliable, affordable public transport — not more of the same road-first approach.

If you agree it’s time for change, join People for Public Transport and help us fight for a better system: http://peopleforpublictransport.com/

BREAKING: 7NEWS can exclusively reveal that South-Eastern Freeway motorists and commuters are set to be big winners in tomorrow's state budget.

$90 million will be spent improving safety on the busy freeway over the next five years.

As growing Adelaide Hills communities put extra pressure on the route, the money will go towards replacing retaining walls and stabilising slopes on key sections.

The investment forms part of what is expected to be a practical, no-frills budget.

Well done to Tasmania for their Free Public Transport 👏👏

It is disappointing to see the South Australian Government not go this far in the midst of a cost of living and a fuel crisis.

On the bus to work this morning!

Awesome to see so many people taking up free public transport 🙏

We will take it, but really, is this the best we could get?

Bit of a cop out when we already have some of the most expensive Public Transport fares in the nation and the best the government does during a fuel crises is just to a delay prices increasing 🤷‍♀️

South Australia has paused planned public transport fare increases for three months to help commuters struggling with cost of living pressures. 📌 DETAILS: https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/south-australian-public-transport-fare-rise-halted-amid-cost-of-living-pressures/news-story/c4c191961457885c3c299333720e16e1

This week People for Public Transport was invited to Transport Action Network’s public meeting, consisting of urban planners, policy makers and concerned members of the public.

Our Chair, Dominic Mugavin, spoke about our organisation's achievements and how important Public Transport is for South Australians.

It's to no surprise to people interested in better transport and planning policy in South Australia that we are severely lacking in focus towards public transport especially when compared to other forms of transport like car infrastructure.

Events like this help groups like ourselves engage with other stakeholders and groups to keep pushing the case for better Public Transport.

If you want your voice to be heard at events like this, please join People for Public Transport, because together we can make change!

Today, People for Public Transport alongsinde Bike Adelaide, Anti Poverty Network SA, and Robert Simms MLC , took to the steps of Parliament House to make the case for Free Public Transport during the fuel crisis and better bikeways overall.

It was a good turnout, showing strong community support for these measures which would have a much needed positive impact for commuters and those doing it tough in South Australia.

The government can make this happen, we know it should happen so it is time that something is done!

If other states in Australia can do it, why can’t we?

Mount Gambier is a clear example of what happens when public transport in regional South Australia is left underfunded and fragmented.

We can't change the past, but we can plan for the future.

That means investing in a proper regional public transport system. Fixing the country coach network with better frequency, fairer fares, and integrated ticketing. Rebuilding rail connections where they make sense. And upgrading services like the Overland so people actually have a real alternative to flying or driving.

Right now, a return bus from Adelaide to Mount Gambier costs $176, while similar distances in Victoria are capped at just $22. That’s not fair, and it pushes people onto the roads.

Regional communities deserve reliable, affordable public transport that connects them to each other and to Adelaide.

If you agree, join People for Public Transport and help push for a system that actually works for all South Australians.

Trains stopped coming to Mount Gambier decades ago, but with fewer flights, locals want them back.

170 years of Adelaide Railway Station! 🥳

For generations, the station has served South Australians ensuring people can get to where they need to go.

Today, it is a vital element of our state, in which 1000s of commuters and travellers rely on, to get to Adelaide or transfer to other services around the suburbs.

Beyond this, SA faces a challenging time, a time where population growth and quality of living comes to a head with new suburbs and ever congested roads.

SA needs more rail and to enable that, we need to upgrade Adelaide Railway Station.

The station is unique in that it effectively acts as a terminus with one way in and and out, meaning sometimes trains actually have to wait for other trains to come back out of the station to then arrive at the platforms and deliver passengers.

An underground rail loop through the CBD would address this, expanding capacity, creating new options travel options and improving frequency for all current and future. 🚉
