Jan, a recent visitor from Cadogan Park Wetlands in Western Australia, took photos of the Meat Ant or Iridomyrmex purpureus colonies at our Wetland. The ants form large mounds with gravel and have been very active during our hot weather. They are very territorial and will bite rather than sting when disturbed. We take great care to avoid them.
