🌱 It's been a busy winter growing new fish habitat for West Lakes!

Together, Adelaide OzFishers have rescued and re-planted over 1,200 subtidal seagrass fragments (Posidonia and Amphibolis) over the past few months, helping to grow new fish habitat, and support rec species like Blue Swimmer Crabs, Bream and Mullet. 🐟🦀

This work is part of our ‘Seagrass for Blue Swimmers’ project, which trialed fragment-based seagrass planting within West Lakes across six sites, and provided a much needed boost in knowledge for future seagrass restoration.

Thanks to everyone who recorded, collected, and planted seagrasses!

From here, we’ll keep monitoring site progress and continuing to record seagrass wash-ups to inform our upcoming projects. 📸

Big thanks to everyone who came down to the Patawalonga yesterday for our 'Saving Our Saltmarsh' working bee. Between the litter clean-up and invasive w**d removal, we pulled 162kg out of the saltmarsh.

This site is a key nursery habitat for local fish species, so every bit of rubbish and w**d removed helps improve conditions for the ecosystem to recover.

Thanks to all OzFishers who gave up their time, and be sure to keep an eye out for the next working bee!

We have our 'Fish Talk: Saving our Saltmarsh' information session at the Glenelg Community Centre tomorrow night with guest speaker Faith Coleman so we hope to see you there - event is listed on our page so be sure to have a look🌱

We are excited to be partnering with Never Never McLaren Vale for OysterPalooza for an oyster 'shell-ebration'! 🦪🍸

This year, oyster shells from OysterPalooza will be collected and recycled by OzFish for local shellfish reef restoration, helping to restore native oysters and build more fish habitat off Adelaide's coast 🦪🐟
