South Australian Council on Intellectual Disability Inc SACID works towards an inclusive South Australian community by promoting rights, advocating for inclusion and building capacity.

SACID also supports Inclusion Northern Territory to achieve the same goals in the Northern Territory. SACID works towards achieving a community in which people with intellectual disability are involved and accepted as equal participating members. Our organisation has people with intellectual disability and their family members or caregivers represented at every level of our organisation. We advocate for the rights of people with intellectual disability and speak up about issues that are important to our community. SACID activities include:
* Capacity building workshops for adults with intellectual disability and their families and caregivers.
* Peer group activities for adults with intellectual disability.
* Redress Scheme support for adults with intellectual disability.
* Information services and useful resources for the community.
* Consultations, co-design and state-level advocacy with people with intellectual disability.
* Inclusion services for professionals and organisations. SACID is the South Australian representative of Inclusion Australia. Inclusion Australia is the national peak body for people with intellectual disability. We consult with Inclusion Australia about all matters to do with intellectual disability by the Commonwealth government and its relevant agencies.

🇳🇿 Melinda and Felicity in Aotearoa/New Zealand!

This week, Melinda and Felicity travelled to Christchurch, New Zealand for the ASID Conference.

The conference was about research and better ways to support people with intellectual disability.

🎤 Melinda and Felicity also gave a presentation!

They talked about the health inequalities people with intellectual disability face in South Australia.

They also shared the work we have done through our Health Action Now Advocacy Campaign.

💬 Melinda shared her favourite parts of the conference:

“I loved seeing people share stories through dance and hearing from people with lived experience. It was great to see people with lived experience presenting alongside researchers. I also enjoyed doing our presentation and learning about Māori culture.”

🌿 Melinda and Felicity also had time to explore Christchurch!

They caught up with our friends Liz and Kristy from Inclusion NT, enjoyed a gondola ride with beautiful views of the city and went for a walk through the Botanic Gardens.

💙 It was a great week of learning, sharing ideas and connecting with others!
