How are refugees from Ukraine rebuilding their lives?

The 2025 Regional Inter-Agency Socio-Economic Insights Survey (SEIS) provides an important picture of refugee experiences across nine host countries.

The survey covered 4,260 households, representing 9,667 people, and found that:

🔹 Employment in host-country systems has reached 67%
🔹 Poverty remains more than twice the host-population rate
🔹 Vulnerable groups continue to experience additional barriers

The report examines socio-economic inclusion, healthcare and mental health and psychosocial support, education, protection, and accountability to affected populations.

These findings can help humanitarian organizations and national partners identify gaps, strengthen services, and support more inclusive communities.

For more than 3 million older Ukrainians, winter can mean facing the cold alone and brings serious risks.

New IOM analysis shows that prolonged power and heating outages could put older people living alone and persons with disabilities at greater risk, highlighting the need for continued support this winter.

Amady left Senegal hoping to build a better future for his newborn daughter. Instead, he faced a dangerous sea crossing and months of uncertainty far from home.

Now, after 18 months in Spain, he is preparing to return home with a plan. With IOM’s support, Amady is building new skills and working towards opening his own motorbike repair workshop in Senegal.

Preparedness starts with knowing who is on the move and what they need.

This year, IOM Lithuania took part in “Vyčio skliautas 2026”, Lithuania’s largest national preparedness and crisis management exercise.

For management stakeholders and international delegations, displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) showed data collection practice and the “Destination - Europe” migration policy game.

Every child deserves a place where they can learn, grow and feel they belong.

This summer, IOM Poland partnered with IKEA Polska to help create a more welcoming environment for around 60 children with disabilities from Poland and Ukraine at the Extraordinary School in Józefów to support their learning and independence.

IKEA donated nearly 300 items for classrooms and shared areas, while IOM team helped assemble the furniture and prepare the classrooms.
