🏊‍♂️ ADVOCACY WIN! SAKUBVA SWIMMING POOL IS BACK! 🏊‍♀️

We are celebrating a big win for the youth of Mutare!

We have been advocating for this since the closure of Sakubva Swimming Pool left young people with no safe, affordable recreational space. We raised our voices because we believe recreation is a right, not a luxury - it keeps youth away from drugs, crime and unsafe spaces.

Today, we are happy to announce that City of Mutare has listened! Sakubva Swimming Pool is BACK and open for public from 3 OCTOBER 2026!

Thank you to the The City Of Mutare for this responsive action. Thank you for making the facility affordable for all and ensuring Certified Lifeguards ON DUTY.

TO THE PUBLIC:

This is YOUR facility. Let's protect it. Let's keep this place clean. NO TO VANDALISM! Do not litter, do not damage property, and let us respect the rules. If we take care of it, it will serve us for many years to come.

This is what happens when youth voices are heard. This is your pool, Mutare youth - let's use it, protect it, and keep it clean!

Good governance and effective management are the foundation of a sustainable organisation.

We are grateful to have participated in the 2-Day Board Governance and Management Training in Harare under the COSPE Southern Africa Institutional Capacity Strengthening Program, supported by the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.

This training was vital in equipping our Board and Management team with skills to Learn, Unlearn and Relearn – enhancing our ability to provide strategic direction, ensure accountability, and lead with integrity and vision. Being part of this cohort is a huge milestone for us as we build an institution where young people lead sustainable, equitable and thriving communities.

Thank you to COSPE Southern Africa and the EU in Zimbabwe for investing in institutional and community development!

A clean community is a powerful community!

Cleanliness is the heartbeat of sustainable development. It protects our health, keeps our Neighbourhoods beautiful, safeguards our water sources, and creates a future where everyone can thrive.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to be active environmental stewards by taking part in clean-ups across our communities. But the movement does not end when the clean-up is over every small action matters. Pick up litter, dispose of waste responsibly, recycle, reduce, and reuse wherever possible.

Today, we’re taking it back to , and where learning, food and community came together!

Through the Mutare Consortium, ward-level nutrition and food safety sessions gave community members practical tips on healthy eating, safe food handling and smarter household food practices.

From celebrating locally available, climate-resilient foods to exploring fuel-efficient cooking methods, the sessions showed that healthy choices can protect our heritage, our environment and our families.

Because good food + safe food = stronger, healthier communities!

MAYA at the SADC People’s Summit 2026 | Durban 🇿🇦🌍

We were in Durban for The People’s SADC: Strengthening People’s Solidarity in a Polycrisis of Debt, Inequality, Conflict, Extractivism and Climate Change.

From the dusty streets of Mutare to the regional decision tables, MAYA stood with young people from Manicaland Province. The ones who feel climate shocks first.

Across Southern Africa, droughts, floods and cyclones are becoming more severe. Communities that did the least to cause the climate crisis are carrying the heaviest burden. In Manicaland we see it in failed harvests, dried-up water sources, and families displaced by floods.

We joined regional movements to demand climate and environmental justice. We called for increased public investment in climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, and resilient infrastructure. We said climate finance must reach affected communities without pushing our countries deeper into debt.

MAYA also called for meaningful community participation in climate policy. People living these realities must help design the solutions. We reject false climate solutions that commodify nature and dispossess communities, and we advocate for protection of our forests, water systems, agricultural land, and biodiversity from destructive extraction.

The session on young women was clear. The El Niño-induced drought is pushing young women into food insecurity and harmful survival strategies.

For MAYA, this is not just a summit discussion. It is our daily work. We will continue to organize with young people in Manicaland to build sustainable, just, and thriving communities.

Solidarity is our survival strategy. A people’s SADC must put people and the planet first.

Civil society grows stronger when laws are understood, voices are heard, and collaboration is intentional. last week , that conversation took place and it mattered.

We successfully convened a Sensitization Workshop on PVO Registration and Compliance with the New Regulations under the project, Strengthening Community-Based Organization’s Compliance with the PVO Amendment Act.

The forum brought together CBOs, CSOs, legal practitioners, representatives from the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, the NANGO Provincial Office, and other key stakeholders. Together, we unpacked the PVO Amendment Act, explored the Patriotic Bill on civic participation, and discussed practical ways to strengthen collaboration and create an enabling civic environment.

Key discussions focused on:
1 Understanding the Patriotic Bill’s impact on civic engagement and civil society operations.
2 Sharing implementation experiences, challenges and emerging concerns
3Identifying practical recommendations that support compliance while protecting freedoms of association,

The outcome? Stronger partnerships, clearer understanding, and CBOs better equipped to engage constructively on legal and regulatory issues affecting their work.
