Today, we honored our heroes and heroines with more than words we honored them through action

At the Manicaland Provincial Heroes Acre, we came together for the to restore the dignity of a place that carries our nation’s history and pride.

This was far more than just picking up litter. It was about building a culture of responsibility, respect, and environmental stewardship. By caring for this sacred space, we pay tribute to those who came before us and help shape a cleaner, healthier future for those who will follow.

Young people, government officials, local authorities, schools, community organizations, and private-sector partners stood united with one purpose: to keep Manicaland clean, green, and proud.

What if a school garden could do more than grow vegetables? What if it could grow confidence, skills, healthier habits, and a brighter future too?

Last week, the Mutare Consortium hosted a School-Based Nutrition Garden Training for teachers from primary and secondary schools across Mutare Urban. The goal is bigger than gardening it’s about creating nutrition gardens that can support school feeding programmes, strengthen food security, and equip learners with practical agricultural skills they can carry for life.

At a time when food prices are rising and weather patterns are becoming more unpredictable, these gardens offer schools a smart, sustainable, and climate-conscious way to grow their own fresh produce and reduce dependence on outside food supplies.

Teachers discovered what makes a nutrition garden special: it’s not just a place to plant crops, but a space designed to encourage dietary diversity, nutrition education, and healthier food choices. They also gained hands-on knowledge in site selection, garden planning, and choosing indigenous, nutrient-rich, climate-resilient crops that can thrive in changing conditions.

Now, schools are ready to turn gardens into living classrooms spaces where learners can get their hands in the soil, grow their own food, learn about healthy eating, and understand the powerful link between food, health, and the environment.

This is more than gardening. This is growing a generation that is informed, empowered, and ready to build a healthier, greener future.

The kitchen was on fire with creativity, teamwork, and healthy competition!

The Mutare Consortium brought together youth from Chikanga, Sakubva, and Dangamvura for an exciting Traditional Healthy Cooking Competition, where local ingredients met innovation and culture.

Congratulations to Team Chikanga/Hobhouse, who cooked their way to victory with a winning traditional dish!

This wasn't just about who made the best meal, it was an opportunity for young people to put into practice the nutrition and healthy cooking skills they gained during the project's training sessions. The competition encouraged peer learning, creativity, teamwork, and confidence while showcasing how nutritious, affordable, and locally available traditional foods can be transformed into delicious meals.

The event proved that healthy eating isn't boring it's vibrant, creative, affordable, and something young people can lead from the front. Together, we're preserving our food heritage while building healthier and more resilient communities..

Our Director Jussa Nhari Kudherezera attended a 2-day Transformative Capacity Development training hosted by COSPE Southern Africa in Harare, joining other organizations for the first HR-focused session.The focus of the training was on key HR areas including managing teams and conflict resolution, ethics, safeguarding and employee well-being, talent management and inclusive workspaces, digital transformation in HR, as well as Zimbabwe labor laws compliance and labor relations.

Our Director attended the Integrity and Accountability Summit 2026 hosted by Transparency International Zimbabwe in Harare.

The summit ran under the theme “Strengthening Accountability Systems in Zimbabwe: From Policy to Practice” and brought together government, oversight institutions, civil society, the private sector and development partners.

Discussions focused on how Zimbabwe can move beyond policy commitments and deliver stronger accountability in practice. Key priorities included strengthening public finance management, enhancing transparency, and digitizing systems to improve service delivery and trust in public institutions.

Real accountability happens when policy meets practice. We are glad to be part of the dialogue on building institutions that serve the people with integrity.

Last was all about good vibes, positive energy, and a rich cultural experience at the Mwaka Hub Youth Center in Chikanga.

The Mutare Consortium brought together young people, community members, traditional food producers, local restaurants, health organizations, and other stakeholders to the Green Plate Cultural Event.

The event celebrated Zimbabwe’s rich food heritage while promoting sustainable and healthy food practices. It featured exhibitions of traditional and nutritious foods, healthy cooking demonstrations, recipe exchange sessions, a Conversation Corner for interactive dialogue on sustainable food systems, cultural performances, and showcases of climate-smart food practices.

the event aimed to celebrate cultural diversity through food, performances, and community dialogue, while also raising awareness about healthy eating, sustainable food systems, and climate-smart household practices.

Together with the Alliance of Community Based Organisations - ACBOs, in partnership with Centre for Applied Legal Research and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, we successfully trained 50 Community Champions from Mutare Rural District.

The training deepened participants’ appreciation of the ZHRC’s vital role in safeguarding human rights, while equipping them with practical skills to identify , stand in solidarity with affected community members, and guide them toward the appropriate pathways for administrative justice.

Through lively role plays inspired by everyday community experiences, the Community Champions unpacked practical ways of confronting unfair administrative practices and confidently engaging duty bearers to demand justice. The training also opened up meaningful conversations where participants reflected on the challenges facing their rural communities and highlighted priority issues that can be taken up with the ZHRC to promote accountability and advance the protection of human rights.
