COMMUNITY CHAMPION SPOTLIGHT

Meet Tonderai Makumana from Mahusekwa, Mashonaland East, a TB survivor whose story is inspiring community action and saving lives.

Diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) in 2016 at Mahusekwa Hospital, Tonderai faced a difficult journey. At one stage, he considered stopping treatment, but with encouragement from his wife, Village Health Workers (VHWs), and healthcare workers from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, he stayed on the course and completed treatment.

Today, Tonderai is healthy, productive, and giving back to his community. Under the FACT Zimbabwe-implemented Life-Saving Facility & Community-Based Service Delivery Support (FC-SDS) Project, working alongside VHWs in Mahusekwa, he is mobilizing community members for TB screening and raising awareness that TB is curable when detected early and when treatment is completed.

"Having been down with TB, today I am proud to share my story with others, showing that TB is curable and if checked early it can be treated. I can now fend for my family as my health has been restored and I can work."

✅ Get screened early
✅ Adhere to treatment
✅ Support those affected by TB

Together, we can end TB.

Strengthening Data Quality for Better Health Outcomes

This week, under the Life-Saving Facility & Community-Based Service Delivery Support (FC-SDS) Project, we participated in a Data Verification and Supportive Supervision Visit in Masvingo Province, hosting teams from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and The Union Zimbabwe Trust (UZT).

We are pleased that the visit highlighted the quality of our work, and stakeholders appreciated the project's contributions to improving data accuracy, service delivery, and accountability. Strong data systems remain essential in ensuring evidence-based decision-making and effective healthcare interventions that save lives and strengthen communities.

Together, we continue to advance quality health services and empower communities through data-driven action.

🎙️ COMMUNITY VOICES | EPISODE 1

We are excited to launch the first episode of Community Voices, a platform that amplifies the experiences, perspectives and aspirations of communities we work with.

Our first episode shines a spotlight on the ActionAid Zimbabwe ActionAid LRP Programme, exploring the impact of community-led initiatives, the voices behind the work, and the positive changes taking place within our communities.

At Simukai Child Protection Programme, we believe that communities must be at the centre of conversations about their own development. Their voices matter, their experiences matter, and their stories deserve to be heard.

Strengthening Drought Preparedness Through Community Engagement in Masvingo Rural District

In partnership with Tearfund Zimbabwe and with funding from the Start Network, has successfully completed community consultations and baseline assessments across targeted wards in Masvingo Rural District as part of the Activation of Safeguarding Livelihoods through for Drought initiative.

The consultations brought together community members, local leaders, government departments, and key stakeholders to identify drought risks, assess community capacities, and gather critical baseline data. The findings will inform the review and strengthening of district anticipatory action protocols, ensuring that response measures are locally informed, timely, and effective.

By engaging communities before drought conditions intensify, the programme is reinforcing preparedness, protecting livelihoods, and strengthening resilience against the anticipated impacts of the 2026/27 El Niño season.

🤝 Together we are taking proactive steps to reduce the impacts of climate-related shocks.

Happy International Youth Day 2026!

Today, we celebrate the energy, creativity, and resilience of young people who are shaping healthier, stronger, and more inclusive communities.

This year's theme, "Different Contexts | Common Aspirations," reminds us that while young people come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, they share common hopes for opportunity, dignity, good health, and a brighter future.

At FACT Zimbabwe, we remain committed to empowering young people with the knowledge, support, and services they need to thrive.

Together, let us continue creating spaces where every young person can reach their full potential.
