🦟 World Malaria Day

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to a malaria‑free future—because malaria is preventable, treatable, and beatable.

Between February and March 2026, FACT Zimbabwe in partnership with Tearfund with support from Start Network implemented a 45‑day Anticipatory Action for Flood‑Induced Disease Outbreaks in Masvingo Province, taking action before malaria outbreaks could take hold.

✅ In high‑risk wards of Chiredzi, Bikita and Zaka, targeted malaria prevention reached 1,361 households reaching 6,700 individuals.

✅ Each household received three insecticide‑treated mosquito nets and three repellent creams, reducing exposure to malaria and other vector‑borne diseases.

✅ Environmental actions were key: drainage clearance around boreholes and shopping centres prevented waterlogging and disrupted mosquito breeding sites across four wards.

This integrated approach complemented broader WASH interventions, strengthened community ownership, and empowered local leaders to protect their environments and water sources.

On , we celebrate the power of anticipatory action, community leadership, and prevention in saving lives; before emergencies escalate.

Together, we can .

💧 Restoring Lifesaving Water Access in Masvingo province.

During the 45-day Anticipatory Action for Flood-Induced Disease Outbreak project, implemented by FACT Zimbabwe, in partnership with Tearfund, with support from Start Network rehabilitated 30 boreholes across Bikita, Chiredzi, and Zaka, restoring safe and reliable water for thousands of households.

From repairing pumps and replacing pipes to cleaning boreholes and strengthening drainage systems, these upgrades reduced long walking distances, cut reliance on unsafe water sources, and protected communities from waterborne diseases.

Community‑led Water Point Committees played a central role, ensuring ownership, sustainability, and long‑term impact.

Safe water saves lives.
