✨ Building Stronger Community Facilitators

Last week in Dora Ward 35, DOMCCP, in partnership with Trócaire, supported community facilitators through hands-on practice sessions for the Masidama programme 💬

These sessions helped facilitators build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and improve how they guide important conversations—especially on issues around gender and power.

Through role plays, teamwork, and shared learning, facilitators not only improved their skills but also learned from each other’s experiences 🤝

This ongoing support ensures that communities receive clear, consistent, and impactful messages.

📸 Take a look at some highlights from the sessions!

🌱 *Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods Through Nutrition Gardening* 🌱

The Diocese of Mutare Community Care Programme (DOMCCP) continues to promote sustainable community initiatives through its nutrition garden project, which is producing fresh and healthy vegetables at our premises.

The garden not only supports food and nutrition needs but also promotes self-sustainability, healthy living, and community empowerment.

🥬 Fresh vegetables harvested from the garden are also being accessed by staff and community members, supporting local produce and encouraging healthy food choices.

We are proud to see growing support for the initiative and the positive impact it continues to make.

👏 Thank you to everyone supporting the project.

📍 Masidama Urban Facilitators Practice Sessions

The Diocese of Mutare Community Care Programme (DOMCCP) successfully conducted practice sessions for urban community facilitators under the Strengthening Women’s Leadership Using the Masidama Approach project.

The sessions focused on strengthening facilitators’ understanding of the manuals, improving facilitation skills, and building confidence in leading community dialogues and participatory discussions.

Through interactive activities, role plays, and group discussions, facilitators enhanced their:
✅ Facilitation and communication skills
✅ Group management skills
✅ Understanding of gender and power relations
✅ Confidence in engaging both women’s and men’s groups

The sessions also provided an opportunity for facilitators to familiarize themselves with participatory and inclusive facilitation approaches that encourage active community engagement.

👏 We appreciate the dedication and participation of all facilitators involved.

With support from Trocaire 🤝

Bvirindi Borehole Project Monitoring 💧

Last Friday 21 May, DOMCCP conducted a monitoring visit for a borehole drilling project at St Elizabeth Primary School in Bvirindi, with the valued support of Cara.

While the initial drilling did not yield water, further surveys will be carried out to identify a more suitable site and ensure a sustainable water source for the community.

The visit also created a valuable learning opportunity for learners at the school, who gathered with their teachers to observe the drilling process and better understand how water access solutions are developed.

We remain committed to working with communities and partners to find lasting solutions that improve lives.

Masidama Facilitator Training – Sakubva 📍 (Last Friday 8May Recap)

Last Friday, DOMCCP successfully completed the Masidama training for community facilitators in Sakubva, aimed at strengthening facilitation skills and deepening understanding of community dynamics.

The training focused on enhancing facilitators’ ability to address challenging statements within communities, while strengthening active listening, communication skills, and participatory and gender-sensitive facilitation approaches.

Facilitators were also equipped to guide reflections on social norms, beliefs, and behaviours that contribute to gender inequalities and harmful practices. This created space for learning, reflection, and the importance of fostering safe and respectful dialogue in communities.

A practical session allowed facilitators to introduce the project to community members, assess understanding of the Masidama approach, and apply facilitation skills in real time while receiving constructive feedback.

Overall, the training strengthened the confidence and capacity of facilitators to effectively implement the Masidama approach at community level.

Masidama Facilitator Training – Day 2 Recap 💬

Last Wednesday, Day 2 of the Masidama Facilitator Training focused on building trust and strengthening listening skills—key foundations for effective community engagement.

The sessions also explored adult learning principles to ensure facilitation approaches remain participatory and responsive to community needs.

A key highlight was training on how to appropriately handle GBV disclosures, with emphasis on empathy, confidentiality, survivor-centred approaches, and referral pathways for additional support services.

The day was both insightful and empowering, strengthening facilitators’ capacity to create safe spaces and engage communities meaningfully.

Today we were at St Elizabeth–Bvirindi Primary School for a stakeholder engagement meeting 📍

Together with the community, we shared findings from the 2025 needs assessment, discussed upcoming project activities, and explored ways to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities at the school.

We also had meaningful conversations around roles, responsibilities, and safeguarding to ensure the success of the project.

These engagements are key to making sure our work reflects the real needs of the community 💚
