Today, we commemorate
In Zimbabwe, this day carries a deeper meaning when we reflect on the women who form the backbone of our society. Women make up 54% of the population and 59.7% of the workforce, yet their contribution extends far beyond formal employment.
To the women leading at national level, shaping policy and driving change, your impact is visible and vital.
To those leading in communities, churches, and organisations your influence builds and sustains our social fabric.
And to the women leading within families, the mothers, caregivers, and nurturers your work is often unseen, unpaid, and uncelebrated, yet it is foundational to everything we are.
Unpaid care work is work. It is leadership. It is sacrifice. It is nation-building.
Today, we honour the resilience, strength, and quiet endurance of Zimbabwean women in all their roles. May we not only recognise your contribution but actively create systems that value, support, and uplift you.
Happy International Workers’ Day.
